2. Austin’s colony promised us more land than
we have ever had. We had also found out
that we can pay it within 3 years instead of
right away. We all started packing right
away, we had wanted to one of the first
ones to Austin’s colony.
3. We had gotten on the boat and begun our
journey. When we got there the land was
just beautiful. There was so much land to
look at. Our family couldn’t wait to start our
lives here.
4. We were at the begging of our first year. Our
total amount of land is 1,970 acres. Our
yearly land payment was $78.80. After our
land payment we started out with $921.20.
5. On our total cost of crops we did $500.00.
We got 60 acres of cotton, 15 acres of
lumber, and 12.5 acres of cattle. That
made our gross income $650.00. We
ended that year with $1071.20.
Lumber
6. We ended our last year with $1071.20. After
our land payment we had $992.40. Our
crop cost was $800.
7. We got 20 acres of cotton, 60 acres of
lumber, and 40 acres of cotton. Our gross
income was $1,500. So at the end of that year
we had $1,692.40. Also that year the Lively
had sank. We also had a mild winter.
8. From the end of the year before we had
$1692.40. After our land payment we had
$1613.00. We had decided to do $500 for
our crops. This year we also had bumper
crop. Everything went perfect that year.
9. That year we got 100 acres for cotton, 100
acres for lumber, and 50 acres for cattle.
Our gross income was $3,500. That year
was our last land payment. We had ended
the year with $3,613.60
10. At the end of the three years we ended up
liking Austin’s Colony much better than
where we where living before. We ended
up staying in San Felipe for the rest of our
lives.
11. The last 3 ½ years had some hard times.
Most towns lost money to the government.
Some lost lots and some only lost a
little, but not us. We had gotten $600.00.
So with that we ended 3 ½ years with
$4213.60.
