6. When Does Life
Begin?
Life begins at
conception. From
conception, all the
information needed to
produce a healthy
person, is already
present (e.g. colour of
eyes, gender, etc.).
Except for oxygen &
nutrition, nothing more
is added to ensure
growth and maturity

7. Milestones of Early Life
• Three weeks: heart is beating
• Six weeks: brain waves are measurable (able to feel pain,
touch and movement)
• 2½ months: body completely formed
(even fingerprints!)
• 3 months: all organs and systems are functioning.

8. Most Commonly Used Methods To
Kill
• Most common: the
'abortion pill'
(Misoprostal or RU 486)
• Vaccuum suction: baby
parts sucked out of the
womb with a vacuum
apparatus
• It is a proven fact that a
pre-born baby feels
pain!

1) Severe bleeding
2) Perforation of the uterus
3) Bowel and bladder injury
4) Laceration of Cervix (the
mouth of the womb)
5) Breast cancer
6) Infection
7) Infertility
8) Death (!)

13. Post Abortion Syndrome
• Women and men suffer
• Symptoms such as guilt,
anger, fits of crying, fear,
grief at loss of baby
• Sleep and appetite
disturbances
• Depression and thoughts of
suicide
• Nightmares, flashbacks

15. The Hard Cases - Rape
• Only about 1 in every 1 000 rapes result in pregnancy
• The after-effects of an abortion last far longer than the
trauma of a rape
• No-one should deny that the woman has been the victim
of another’s cruel violence. But does that give her the
right to subject the innocent life inside her to similar
violence?

17. Threat to the Mother’s
Physical Health
• Difference btw abortion for a mother’s health
vs. life
• If serious complications occur in third trimester
– premature baby has good chance of
surviving.
• A doctor’s aim should be to do everything
possible to save both lives!

18. What if the baby is deformed
or retarded?
• The doctor’s diagnosis is often wrong.
• A person’s worth and value are not
dependent on their physical or mental
“normality”.

20. What about…?
1. The woman’s right to her own
body?
The baby is not part of the
mother’s body
2. Back street abortions?
Making abortion legal does not
stop them. In fact, it increases
them.
3. Overpopulation?
It is a lie. The problem is over-
urbanisation.
4. “I can’t afford another child!”
Children are a blessing (Psalm
127:3-5, 37:25)

21. The Abortion Law in SA
• Abortion on demand up until 12 weeks
• Up to 20 weeks under the following conditions:
pose a risk to woman’s physical/mental health
pregnancy from rape or incest
baby would suffer severe physical/mental
abnormality
affect the mother’s economic or social conditions
(effectively means that abortion-on-demand is
legal until 20 weeks).

• After 20 weeks: If the continued pregnancy
would: endanger the mother’s life, severe
malformation of pre-born child, and risk of injury
to pre-born child(!)
• Abortion clinics – not required to mention
alternatives (non-mandatory counselling)

23. “But women were dieing from back-street
abortions – abortion needed to be
legalised to save their lives…”
This argument seems ridiculous
when you use the right words:
Because people (women) die or are
being harmed while killing
innocent people (i.e pre-born
people), the state should make it
safe for them to do so.

therefore every life is precious to God.
• We are to love our pre-born neighbors as we love
ourselves (Matt 22:39).
• We are commanded to “Speak up for those who
cannot speak for themselves.” Proverbs 31:8
• We are called to protect innocent life: “Rescue those
being led away to death, hold back those staggering
towards slaughter.” Proverbs 24:11
• The 6th Commandment: “Do not murder” Exodus
20:13
• God hates murder: “These six things the Lord
hates…hands that shed innocent blood…”
Proverbs 6:16-17.

Abortions
Caring for the Pre-Born and their Mothers
“Rescue those being led away to death, hold back
those staggering towards slaughter.” Proverbs 24:11

32. Prevention is better than cure:
teaching abstinence
• Sexual Risk Avoidance (abstinence)
education has an impressive and growing
body of research pointing to its effectiveness.
• To date, 23 peer-reviewed studies show
statistically significant evidence of positive
behavioral impact for student with all levels of
sexual experience. Six studies demonstrate
significant delay in sexual initiation for one to
two years after the programme ended.

34. Compassion
• Start a Crisis Pregnancy Centre or volunteer
• Call Africa Cares for Life (umbrella body
of Crisis Pregnancy Centres, Adoption
Agencies, and Mothers’ Homes) for
training or to find the nearest Centre in your

45. The Responsibility of the Elders of the City
“If a man is found slain, lying in a field in the land the Lord

killed him, your elders and judges shall go out and measure
