Comparing the quran with the Bible

  1. 1. Comparing The Quran With The Bible By Dr. Peter Hammond
  2. 2. How Firm a Foundation
  3. 3. How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, Is laid for your Faith in His excellent Word! What more can He say than to you He hath said, You, who unto Jesus for refuge have fled?
  4. 4. Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed, For I am thy God and will still give thee aid; I’ll strengthen and help thee, and cause thee to stand Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.
  5. 5. When through fiery trials thy pathways shall lie, My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply; The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.
  6. 6. The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose, I will not, I will not desert to its foes; That soul, though all hell should endeavour to shake, I’ll never, no never, no never forsake.
  7. 7. Comparing The Quran With The Bible By Dr. Peter Hammond
  8. 8. The Bible is 66 books written by 40 different prophets and apostles, in 3 languages (Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek), on 3 continents (Africa, Asia and Europe), over 1 500 years.
  9. 9. The Quran is one book, written by one author, in one language, in one geographic area, over 23 years.
  10. 10. Even the Quran acknowledges that Jesus Christ was miraculously born of a virgin, was holy and faultless, performed miracles, healed the sick and raised the dead.
  11. 11. Muhammad, however, was a trader who transported and sold slaves. He was also a slave owner. This we learn from the Muslim’s own holy writings – the Hadith. One of Muhammad’s 14 wives, Aisha, was only 9 years old when he married her. (According to the laws of most countries in the world that constitutes child abuse.)
  12. 12. Muhammad attacked caravans for loot and had over 600 Jewish men in Medina dig their own mass grave before having them all slaughtered. Their wives and children were then sold as slaves. All these facts are recorded in the Hadith.
  13. 13. The authenticity of the Bible as God’s revealed Word is attested to by many witnesses, by miracles such as the parting of the Red Sea,
  14. 14. the fire that came down on Mount Carmel, our Lord feeding thousands with a handful of food,
  15. 15. walking on the water,
  16. 16. calming the storm,
  17. 17. raising Lazarus from the grave and countless other events.
  18. 18. The Bible contains hundreds of detailed prophecies. Our Lord Jesus fulfilled 300 Old Testament prophecies in his life on earth. The Messiah was to be: born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14), in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2), a descendant of David (Isaiah 9:7), 483 years after the decree to build Jerusalem (Daniel 9:24- 26).
  19. 19. He would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver (Zech. 11:12-13), by a friend (Psalm 41:9),
  20. 20. His hands and feet pierced – crucified – (Psalm 22:16),
  21. 21. His robe gambled for (Psalm 22:18).
  22. 22. He would be buried with the rich (Isaiah 53:9).
  23. 23. Yet He would rise from the dead (Psalm 16:10)
  24. 24. and ascend to Heaven (Psalm 68:18).
  25. 25. There is no provision for forgiveness in the Quran, no atonement for sins (Leviticus 17:11). Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. In the blood of Christ we have full atonement for sin.
  26. 26. Unlike the Quran, the Bible is convincingly attested to by countless miracles and detailed, prophecies. If you visit Medina you can see the tomb where Muhammad is buried.
  27. 27. But if you visit Jerusalem you will find an empty tomb. The Lord Jesus Christ has risen. He is the way, the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except by Him.
  28. 28. Jesus healed the sick. Muhammad healed no-one.
  29. 29. Jesus could make the blind see. Muhammad could only make the seeing blind.
  30. 30. Jesus made the crippled walk. Muhammad could make the walking crippled.
  31. 31. Jesus could take a dead man and make him alive. Muhammad could take a live man and make him dead.
  32. 32. Jesus multiplied food to feed thousands. Muhammad could divide the loot amongst his followers.
  33. 33. Jesus could walk on the water. Muhammad could ride a camel.
  34. 34. Islam is a religion of hatred and slavery based upon a lie.
  35. 35. Christianity is a relationship of love with God based upon the truth.
  36. 36. Quran Vs Bible • 1 book • 66 books “Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” Matthew 7:20 •1 author •1 language •1 country •Over 23 years •No prophecies •No miracles •A grave in Medina •No atonement •Hatred for enemies •Slavery •40 writers •3 languages •3 continents •Over 1 500 years •Prophecies •Miracles •An empty tomb •Full atonement •Love for enemies •Liberty
  37. 37. CHANGES IN THE QURAN As to the myth that “there is only one Quran and it has never been changed”, Slavery, Terrorism and Islam exposes that as falsehood as well. Both the times of prayer and the direction of prayer were changed from the original Quran.
  38. 38. Originally Muhammad had declared that it was Allah's will that all Muslims pray towards Jerusalem. After the Jews refused to accept his “prophethood”, Muhammad changed the direction of prayer from Jerusalem to Mecca.
  39. 39. DESTROYING QURANS The third Calipha Uthman forcibly standardised the many variations of the Quran by demanding that all versions and copies of the Quran had to be surrendered - under pain of death - for destruction. At the end, Uthman issued a new, revised, standardised, version of the Quran which endures to this day.
  40. 40. MANY VERSIONS As to there being only one version of the Quran, I have on my shelf a number of Qurans, several of which I obtained from the Islamic Propagation Centre International, including the translation and commentary by Yusuf Ali and the translation by Muhammad Pickthall.
  41. 41. There are also the translations by Maulana Muhammad Ali, Ahmed Ali, J. M. Rodwell, A. J. Arberry, M. H. Shakir, N. J. Dawood and Muhammad Zafulla Khan.
  42. 42. The differences between these various translations of the Quran can be quite interesting. For example the permitting of plunder in Surah 24:29: Rodwell translates it as “there shall be no harm in your entering (unoccupied) houses…for the supply of your needs”; M. Z. Khan's translation adds “wherein are your goods.”
  43. 43. Dawood inserts “to seek shelter.” M. H. Shakir and M. M. Ali insert an ambiguous “wherein you have your necessities.” Ahmed Ali writes “where there is some convenience for you.” Whereas Arberry has a vague “wherein enjoyment is for you.”
  44. 44. Surah 4:34 (or:38, some versions of the Quran vary slightly as to their verse numbers), Dawood, Arberry and Rodwell translate as “as for (disobedient wives) beat them” whereas M. M. Ali and M. Z. Khan prefer a more obscure translation: “chastise them.”
  45. 45. Some Muslim translators such as M. M. Ali tried to soften Muhammad's savagery by retranslating verses such as Surah 8:12: “Strike off their heads. Strike off their fingertips!” with “smite…their necks…and every fingertip.”
  46. 46. Dawood translates Surah 8:68: “A prophet may not take captives until he has fought and triumphed in the land.” However, Rodwell uses these words in his translation: “…until he has made a slaughter in the earth.” Plainly the assertion that there is only one Quran, and the Quran has never been changed, is false.
  47. 47. • “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest therefore to send out workers into His harvest field.” Matthew 9:39
  48. 48. “The Kingdoms of the world have become the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign for ever and ever.” Revelation 11:15
  49. 49. “All nations will come and worship before You …” Revelation 15:4
  50. 50. “The desert tribes will bow before Him and His enemies will lick the dust ... All kings will bow down to Him and all nations will serve Him.” Psalm 72: 9-11
  51. 51. "May Your ways be known on earth, Your Salvation among all nations. May the peoples praise You, O God; may all the peoples praise You." Psalm 67:2-3
