The Ice is Melting! Deryn March 1, 2013Orcutt Academy High School Frosh Core
Is Global Warming a Threat? “Climate change threatens the long- term survival of all creatures on Earth, from polar bears to sea turtles to migratory birds to humans.” –Peter Fashing.
Background Information Global warming hasbeen a threat to us for about the last century. The rapid burning of fossilfuels have ruined the environment and caused the polar ice to melt.
The Main Idea Even though some people say that global warming does not pose a threat to us, it has actually jeopardized Earths environment, and is causing many animals to be added to the endangered species list.
Is Global Warming Even Real? Some people don’t believe that globalwarming is even there, but global warming is an issue that is making a big impact in our world, especially the Earth’s polar regions.
We Have to Change Our Ways! Someone could argue that all of the Arctic ice won’t completely melt away in the NEAR future, but it still could eventually, if we don’t change our ways soon.
How Do People Really Feel About Global Warming? Do you personally think global warming poses a threat to our enviroment? 33% Yes 67% No Data obtained form self-generated survey. Click Here to Take the Survey Now!!!
The Water is Rising “Sea levels are expected to rise between 7 and 23 inches by the end of the century, and continued melting at the poles could add between 4 and 8 inches”. – National Geographic
What Does Everyone Else Think? How much do you think the ocean water will rise in this century due to global warming? 21 15 10 10 3 1 1 inch 2 inches 3 inches 10 5 feet 50 feet inches Data obtained form self-generated survey. Click Here to Take the Survey Now!!!
What’s the Effects? The melting of the Arctic ice hasunfortunately killed many of the land mammals that live there.
Swim Farther! Polar bears are having to swim farther distances in between ice caps, causing them to get easily exhausted and drown.
Population and Health Dwindling “Population density of polar bears in one intensively studied population in Hudson Bay, Canada, declined by 22 percent over the past decade alone. Even those at Hudson Bay that remain alive have suffered from inadequate nutrition – surviving bears were found to be 15 percent thinner on average than bears in thispopulation were only a few decades ago”. –Peter Fashing.

Conclusion Global warming is a growing threat to the world we live in. Due to melting ice, polar bears and other Arctic animals have been driven out of their habitat, and masses of them have died as a result. We should try to stop this worldwide heating to prevent the extinction of many living creatures.
The environment we live in is a very delicate andcomplex place, and could crumble if its perfectbalance is broken. We should try to stop thisworldwide heating to prevent the extinction ofmany living creatures. Do you think we can stopit before it’s too late?
