  2. 2. Substituting MethodQ. How to solve these substitution methods : y = 3x + 2, y = 2x + 3 and x = 2y + 1, x + 3y - 1In substitution method, we have a given equation of two variables, x and y i.e. y = 3x + 2, y =2x + 3.First you put the value of y in other given equation y = 2x + 3 and calculate the value of x.Steps are: y = 2x + 2Plug ‘y’ from first equation. 3x + 2 = 2x + 3Solve this equation for x 3x + 2 = 2x + 3Subtract 2x and 2 from both the side of the equation 3x+ 2 – 2x – 2 = 2x + 3 – 2x – 2 x=1Substitute x= 1 in any one of the given equation and find the value of other variable y = 2x + 2 y = 2 (1) + 2 y=2+2 y=4Answer is : x = 1, y = 4 www.freematheducation.com 2
