In addition to his roles as an otolaryngic physician and orofacial surgeon at the practice, Dr. Frank Brettschneider is also an allergist. Allergies peak in the spring season, when plant life thrives, filling the air with pollens and spores. Consider the following tips to keep your allergies under control in the coming months: 1. Go out later: If you plan to participate in outdoor activities during allergy season, try to schedule them for later in the afternoon. Pollen tends to be more active in the morning, especially on warm, sunshine-filled days. 2. Stay informed: Consider signing up with a pollen alert system in order to keep watch over local pollen counts, and avoid spending time outdoors on days when the count is high. Alerts can be received via email or even through smartphone apps. 3. Clean clothes and hair: If you spend a lengthy amount of time outside on high pollen days, remember to shower and change your clothes upon returning to your home. This helps prevent the transfer of allergens to furniture and other items you use regularly, such as a couch or bed.
