What We Can Do For You… <ul><li>Joint collaboration and instruction </li></ul><ul><li>for individual, small group or entire classes in relation to research skills, media materials and technologies being used in classroom instruction. </li></ul><ul><li>Provide classroom specific links for teacher assigned projects, to be available on the school website for student access </li></ul><ul><li>Student instruction on website evaluation </li></ul>

What We Can Do For You (cont-) <ul><li>Professional learning opportunities tailored </li></ul><ul><li>to your specific needs </li></ul><ul><li>Travel to classrooms/labs when it is more convenient for the teacher and students </li></ul><ul><li>Research and purchase appropriate media center print materials for your specific </li></ul><ul><li>subject areas </li></ul>

Scheduling Classes <ul><li>Email BOTH Alanna Bird & Pam Norman or MVHS Media with dates and periods requested </li></ul><ul><li>A reply will be sent within the day letting teachers </li></ul><ul><li>know of availability in the media center </li></ul><ul><li>Media Specialists will need a copy of classroom </li></ul><ul><li>assignment along with specific needs for that class </li></ul><ul><li>( i.e. books pulled, media instruction, weblinks…) </li></ul>

Scheduling Classes (cont-) <ul><li>Please do not schedule classes for the media center </li></ul><ul><li>when you are absent. </li></ul><ul><li>** Productivity generally suffers </li></ul><ul><li>with a substitute </li></ul><ul><li>Wireless carts also available for checkout through the </li></ul><ul><li>media center . </li></ul>

Sending Students on Passes <ul><li>The agenda book ,complete with teacher signature, will serve as a pass for students wishing to come to the media center during the school day. </li></ul><ul><li>Three students per class (more than 3, please sign up entire class for media time) </li></ul><ul><li>No passes required for before and after school use of the media center </li></ul><ul><li>Students may obtain a semester lunch pass from the media staff with permission of the classroom teacher. Pass will be in sticker format, posted in the front of their agenda books. Lunch pass may be revoked by media specialists when deemed necessary . </li></ul>
  7. 7. Instructional Equipment <ul><li>The Media Center circulates equipment on a short term basis. Equipment to be circulated includes the following: </li></ul><ul><li>LCD projectors ( returned to MC at the end of each day) </li></ul><ul><li>Camcorders </li></ul><ul><li>Digital Cameras </li></ul><ul><li>See complete equipment list in Media Center folder </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher may reserve this equipment at the circulation desk or by emailing Lisa Anderson, media clerk </li></ul>

Non-School Owned Materials <ul><li>When using any non-school owned materials </li></ul><ul><li>( i.e. DVD/video and etc…) please follow the proper procedures for non-school owned/supplementary materials as provided in the MVHS faculty handbook </li></ul><ul><li>Not sure…ask a media specialist </li></ul>
  9. 9. Media Catalog/Destiny <ul><li>Available for access on the desktop of all teacher computers. </li></ul><ul><li>Web based catalog that allows patrons to search MVHS’s media center collection for both books and AV from your school location. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Research Database Lotus Notes <ul><li>The GCPS research database can be located on your lotus notes desktop. </li></ul><ul><li>Excellent resource for teachers to use when planning a research project. </li></ul>
  11. 11. Media Catalog/Destiny Login Procedure <ul><li>Login same as go.gwinnett portal login </li></ul><ul><li>Login only necessary to view current teacher checkouts. </li></ul>
  12. 12. Fair Use Guidelines <ul><li>Fair-use allows teachers to record a program off-air and use it in their classroom within 10 days of the broadcast </li></ul><ul><li>Teachers may retain tape for 45 days for instructional review </li></ul><ul><li>Tape must be erased after 45 days </li></ul><ul><li>Programs desired for more than a one time use should be purchased following school guidelines. </li></ul><ul><li>Not sure…ask a media specialist. </li></ul>

Fair Use Guidelines: Other Medium <ul><li>Book </li></ul><ul><li>10% or 1000 words </li></ul><ul><li>Poem </li></ul><ul><li> Entire poem may be used, but no more than one poem by a poet ,or 5 poems from an anthology </li></ul><ul><li>Illustrations and photographs </li></ul><ul><ul><li>A photograph or illustration may be used in its entirety- no more than 5 images of an artist or photographer and no more than 10% or 15 images, whichever is less in a collective work </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Music </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>10% or 30 seconds </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Motion Media </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li> 10% or 3 minutes </li></ul></ul>
