  1. 1. Joseph Xie 8A Elizabeth Garrett Anderson was born on June 9, 1836. She was the second ofeleven children. Elizabeth Garrett Anderson’s parents were Newson Garrett andLouise Dunnell. Their ancestors had been ironworkers since the early 17th century.At age of 10, a governess, who was a poor gentlewoman, was employed to educateGarrett and her sister. Elizabeth joined the British Medical Association for 19 years. She was now alicentiate of the Society of Apothecaries. Garrett was a physician and feminist. Shealso created a medical school for women. In 1870, Garrett gained here M.D. inUniversity of Paris Anderson’s accomplishments advanced technology in the medical terms. Shemade the first women’s hospital that allowed women to work as staff, nurses, anddoctors. Her other accomplishments were getting women a little more rights. Heraccomplishments achieved equality. Now that women have more rights, it meansthat more jobs open up for them.
