The First Day of Summer is celebrated each spring in Iceland and Nordic countries between April 19-25 to mark the beginning of summer and the summer month of Harpa. While intended to celebrate warmer weather, snow is sometimes still present. Traditionally, children received presents and had no school to enjoy activities like processions. The day signifies the return of the sun and end of winter's darkness in Iceland.
