2.
Fast cut shots in time with the dance beat, this sustains
audience interest and prevents boredom.
High angle establishing shots to give the viewers a sense of
environment the dance track is filmed in.
Some close up shots of people to show individual roles of
different people within the video – e.g. Shots of the two
girls lip syncing to show the audience that they are more
important than other people in the video.
Fast shots add the sense of realism that there would be in
a dance/club environment.
A range of mid-shots of people dancing in time with the
beat to further contribute to the sense of realism.

Music videos in the dance genre are typically set in lively
atmospheres with a lot of things going on simultaneously.
Videos may be shot at locations such as clubs, parties and
gatherings with friends so that the audience can relate
what they are watching to their lives.
It is important that the location matches the type of song,
for example a song in the dance genre would typically be
filmed in a club to accompany the audio.
To add a further sense of verisimilitude for the audience, a
dance genre video may be filmed at a house party,
including the typical conventions of people having a good
time partying in a lively setting.
Locations with a lot of lighting and vibrant colours are
typical conventions of a dance genre music video as they
accompany the dance audio, and the sense of liveliness
and feel good atmosphere is given off to the audience.
4.
Typical editing techniques used to add the conventions of a
dance genre pop video may include fast cut shots, to enable
the audience to view different angles and areas of the
video.
The use of editing techniques contribute to accompanying
the audio of the video which is designed to almost give the
audience a sense of euphoria, and make them want to dance
in an environment similarly depicted in the video.
Sometimes in dance videos slow motion editing is used to
contrast with the fast edited shots of the video. This is
useful in some cases however due to the time being
stretched for a longer period of time, it allows the audience
to focus on certain aspects purposely designed to be focused
on. This further submerses the audience into the dance
environment.
5.
In our music video we are using a variety of shots including
high angle, low angle, fast/slow, mid shots, close ups and
establishing shots to fully exaggerate the dance feel we are
trying to convey.
The locations we are using to film in are house parties,
birthday events, limos, funfairs and a filming studio. We
want to add a sense of verisimilitude that the audience can
relate to, perhaps from past experiences that they have.
Our editing will consist of a variety of different shots that
have been made sure they are in time with the beat, this
will help the audience to focus on all angles of the dance
environment we are trying to convey. We would like the
submerse the audience into the video to give them a sense
of euphoria and the feel good dance feeling.
