S.1619 Livable Communities Act of 2009 <ul><li>Creates HUD Office of Sustainable Housing & Communities </li></ul><ul><li>$100 Million/year 2010-2013 for comprehensive planning grant program for local government consortiums (local & state government, MPO, regional councils) that address one or more of the following: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Develop regional plans/goals/strategies involving land use, conservation, increasing access/ridership on public transit, creation/preservation of workforce housing, promoting TOD, revitalizing communities, environmental protection, public health, reducing GHG, </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Implementing plans through interjurisdictional agreements that asses regional population growth and impacts to jobs, housing (long-term affordable and workforce), transportation options </li></ul></ul>

S.1619 Livable Communities Act of 2009 <ul><li>$3.75 Billion total for Sustainability Challenge Grants program 2011-2013 to promote integrated transportation, housing and energy programs that promote sustainable/location-efficient development </li></ul><ul><li>$150 Million reserved for same applicants </li></ul><ul><li>10% for planning; balance project specific goal implementation from the regional plan </li></ul><ul><li>promote livable communities through TODs, public transportation improvements/complete streets, creating/preserving affordable housing, energy efficiency, mixed income development, smart growth infrastructure maintenance/improvements, land use/zoning reform </li></ul>
