PARLIAMENT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC <ul><li>The Parliament of the Czech Republic is the legislative body of the Czech Republic, situated in Prague. </li></ul><ul><li>It consists of two chambers , both directly-elected: </li></ul><ul><li>the Chamber of Deputies - lower house </li></ul><ul><li>the Senate - upper house </li></ul><ul><li>Besides passing the laws, the Parliament </li></ul><ul><li>has got other competences such as: </li></ul><ul><li>creating a state budget </li></ul><ul><li>election of the President </li></ul><ul><li>modify the Constitution </li></ul><ul><li>ratify international agreements </li></ul><ul><li>declare war, etc. </li></ul>

THE CHAMBER OF DEPUTIES <ul><li>The chamber of deputies has got 200 members. </li></ul><ul><li>The election take place every 4 years. </li></ul><ul><li>The main function of the Chamber of Deputies is to propose and approve the laws </li></ul><ul><li>Today, the Chamber of Deputies is compound of 5 parties: </li></ul><ul><li>ODS – Civic democratic party </li></ul><ul><li>ČSSD – Social democratic party </li></ul><ul><li>KSČM – C ommunist party </li></ul><ul><li>KDU-ČSL – Christian party </li></ul><ul><li>Green party </li></ul>

THE SENATE <ul><li>The S enate has got 81 members. </li></ul><ul><li>One third of the senators is changed every 2 years. </li></ul><ul><li>Each senator is elected for 6 years. </li></ul><ul><li>The Senate can delay a proposed law approved by the Chamber of Deputies but this veto can be overridden by an absolute majority of all members of the Chamber of Deputies (i.e. 101 of 200) in a repeated vote. </li></ul>

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC <ul><li>The Government of the Czech Republic is created on the basis of elections to the Parliament of the Czech Republic. </li></ul><ul><li>The government is the highest body of executive power, and is made up of the prime minister, the deputy prime ministers and ministers. </li></ul><ul><li>The government is responsible to the Chamber of Deputies. </li></ul>Prime Minister Ing. THE GOVERNMENT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC <ul><li>The government is divided into 16 departments, such as: </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry of foreign affairs </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry of defence </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry of finance </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry for the European affairs </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry of interior </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry of industry and trade </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry of justice </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry of labour and social affairs </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry of transport </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry of agriculture </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry of healthcare </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry of education </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry of environment </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry of culture </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry for regional development </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry for human rights </li></ul>

THE PARTICIPATION <ul><li>the Participation programme is supposed to young people involved in public life and politics </li></ul><ul><li>the idea of Participation comes from France </li></ul><ul><li>the programme helps to develop rhetorical skills, willingness to educate yourself and to take over the responsibility for others </li></ul><ul><li>young people have the opportunity to express their opinions, develop their own legal conscience, the conscience of a future active citizen. </li></ul>

NPDM – THE NATIONAL PARLIAMENT OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH <ul><li>t he National Parliament of children and youth was founded in 1997 </li></ul><ul><li>once a year there is a main session of the Parliament, the session takes place mainly in Prague </li></ul><ul><li>the National Parliament is the highest youth political body in the Czech Republic </li></ul><ul><li>it is responsible for the regional, town and school parliaments </li></ul><ul><li>it is the advi sable body for the Parliament of the Czech Republic </li></ul><ul><li>the presidium includes 14 members, according to 14 regions in the Czech Republic </li></ul>

ZMOK – THE YOUTH COUNCIL OF THE OLOMOUC REGION <ul><li>The Youth Council of the Olomouc Region was founded in 2003 </li></ul><ul><li>it is the advi sable body for the Regional Council of Olomouc </li></ul><ul><li>it is responsible for the town and school parliaments (at CMG) </li></ul><ul><li>provides many interesting actions, such as the Debate Contest </li></ul><ul><ul><li>it is the students‘ contest in debating </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>the students debate mainly on political topics </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>it is possible to debate in Czech and English </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>CMG is about to start coaching the team for the contest </li></ul></ul>
