Ever since the merging of Tainan City and Tainan County, and for celebrating the greatest teacher Confucius 2651st birthday, a big worshipping ceremony will be held by following the old etiquette at Tainan Confucius Temple. Over 300 years, Tainan Confucius Temple is always keeping this tradition which holding ceremonies during spring and autumn, while the one in autumn is the most important one. This year, in order to popularize the Confucianists, the event has extended. Besides the worshipping ceremony and Dacheng holy worshipping, there will also be series of activities like Yi Dance study camp, Confucius Temple tour guide, and theme lectures, for people to understand more about the history and cultural meaning of Tainan Confucius Temple. The ceremony worshipping the greatest teacher Confucius is called Shidian Ceremony, which means besides music and dance during the rite, sacrifices and liquors are offered to show esteem of Confucius. The famous Bayi Dance or Liouyi Dance is the highest esteem to Confucius during the Shidian Ceremony. The ceremony will begin by 9/28 5am in the morning with 108 beats of drum, and lasts within an hour. The most exciting part people expected among the ceremony is the "taking the hair of wisdom". The hair of wisdom is actually hair from the cows that are sacrificed for the Shidian Ceremony, and people believe of gaining wisdom by taking the hair from the sacrifices enjoyed by Confucius. Hence, lots of people are attracted to join this activity. Currently, Tainan Confucius Temple is one of the few temples that offer to sacrifice cows for people to take the hair of wisdom.
