This article examines the criteria managers consider most important in making dismissal decisions. The researchers surveyed 385 managers to identify the seven most common criteria. They then used rational ranking and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) methods to analyze the importance of each. The results showed commitment, performance records, and trust are the top three most impactful criteria in dismissal decisions. Interpersonal relationship, growth potential, and professional experience were secondary considerations. The findings provide insight into the key factors managers weigh when deciding who to dismiss and why, with the goal of increasing transparency in these important decisions.
