Judging the Relevance and worth of ideas part 2.pptx
09, So Fine!
1. ’09, SO FINE!
Good evening and welcome to the first part of your loved one’s high school graduation.
As you look at your graduate, you see a young man or woman who has shown their true
capability. Obviously you are proud of them. But as you look the class of 2009 as a whole, you
wonder how each individual contributed for the greater good of this class. Ever since our
freshman year, we had a slogan. It was, “09, So Fine!” So to help you get to know each
graduate, I will try my best to show you what makes them so fine!
To get things started, would Ricky Alarcon please stand up.
Ricky, who is one of my best friend’s, is known to be the jock in our class. He is known
to make the flashiest plays possible in basketball. Not only is he flashy on the court, but he is
also flashy off of it. He never ceases to make everyone around him laugh. One thing that people
may not know about Ricky is that he LOVES animals. He hopes to dive into the world of marine
biology in the near future.
Next up, would Marcella Archilla please stand. Marcella is known to be the artíst in our
class. Just as she painstakingly puts in details into every art project, she also applies the same
creativity in everything that our class asks her to do. As long as I have known Marcella, there
are 3 things that have always been consistent: she is quite hyper, loves candy, and does not stop
talking, EVER.
Would Melanie Bowen please stand. I’ll be completely honest with you, I’ve always
been somewhat afraid of Mel. Those who have seen her play basketball know exactly what I’m
talking about. Her physical toughness as well as mental toughness allowed her to be Sergeant-
At-Arms of our class as well as President of the Student Association of SLA. I guess this came
2. from her inspiration and love for Barack Obama himself. I am sure that Mel will continue to
hold high offices wherever she goes.
If Angel Caisapanta would please stand. I remember the first time I met Angel a couple
years ago. My first reaction was, “Whoa, he has a low voice!” As I have gotten to know Angel,
one thing that always stood out was his respectfulness and gentleness towards others. I’m sure
his girlfriend, Kristy, and her family would agree with me. As Angel has grown up and matured,
he has never stopped smiling and laughing. The only thing that has changed is his long flowing
hair. Angle, I’m sure everyone misses it.
Haley Cutler, please stand. At first glance, you see a relatively quite girl with freckles
and straight, brown hair. But what people don’t know about Haley is that she knows how to
snowboard, ride four-wheelers, fish, and even shoot a gun! This is a girl you seriously don’t
want to mess with. I guess what I’m trying to say is that Haley knows how to get down and dirty
to get whatever needs to be done.
If Chantal Forbes could please stand. Out of our whole class, Chantal has to be the
quietest. But even though she is quiet, I have learned that Chantal loves to cook. I’ve seen her
make amazing shapes out of fruit, make pastries, and even various ethnic dishes. I am not going
to lie, I wish I had this skill that she is so good at. I hope Chantal continues to perfect her skill of
cooking because I am sure that is what she wants to do for her career.
Next up is the President of the Class of 2009, Ms. Laury Fouche. Part of Laury’s resume
includes being President for our class for her freshman and sophomore years, President of
Student Association during her junior year, and of course Class President for her Senior year. I
wouldn’t be surprised if she will hold the Presidential Office in the White House in a couple
decades. Over the last 8 years, I have learned that Laury is the hardest working person I have
3. ever met. She has an awesome work ethic and does not fear failure. If there was one thing that I
was jealous about Laury, it would be her ability to get out of trouble. I still can’t believe she
convinced the judge to totally excuse her speeding ticket and let her go with clean hands. That’s
Laury for you!
Our next Senior is also one of our newest seniors. His name is Steven Fox. When Steve
first walked into SLA last August, he had his school shirt buttoned all the way and it was tucked
into his khaki pants. So naturally, everyone looked at poor Steve quite comically. But as the
year went on and Steve got more comfortable with the dress code, our class grew close to him.
Some of my favorite moments with Steve came in Physics and Pre-Cal classes. When he wasn’t
sleeping, he would poke fun at Laury (which no one ever dared to do) and made jokes about
everything. So to Steven, I am glad that you chose to come to SLA for your final year of high
school. Just make sure as you leave us that you keep your pants up at your waistline.
Next up, would Kristy Gonzalez please stand. First and foremost, Kristy is one of the
most amazing singers I have ever seen. Whenever she sings, it seems like everyone around her
goes quiet. But not only does she sing, but she also uses her lungs to burp. I have never heard
anyone, guy or girl, burp like how Kristy can burp. Also, when you are around Kristy, you can’t
help but laugh. She seems to always say the funniest things even though it can get a little
awkward at times.
Moving on, would Josiah Hagan please stand. Josiah is absolutely the smartest person in
our class. When it comes to analyzing poems, solving math problems, and testing the forces of
gravity in physics class, no one is more capable. The best memory I had of Josiah was when his
canoe was flipped in the rapids during senior survival. He single-handedly picked up his canoe
4. and brought his group to shore safely. Josiah, I hope you continue to work hard in everything
that you do because I believe that you will go very far in life.
The next person I would like to introduce is Jeremy de Jean-Baptiste. He is our newest
student to the Senior class. When he came to SLA in February from Blue Mountain Academy, I
thought that he would have a hard time getting used to his new school. But soon enough, Jeremy
fit in perfectly. I would have to say the funniest moments with Jeremy came in kickball where
he always managed to get out no matter how hard he tried. Jeremy, I am glad that you were able
to wrap up your high school career with us.
Would Catherine Kone please stand. When I think of Catherine, the first thing that
comes to mind is “crazed shopaholic.” If shopping was a sport, she would definitely be the most
valuable shopper. Catherine’s shopping skills will reward herself in the near future because Ms.
Kone hopes to follow her sister’s footsteps to become a fashion designer.
The next person is Jessica Malcolm. Jessica is a very dynamic person. She is a trained
lifeguard and our class Pastor. So I guess you could say that she is trained to save souls for Jesus
as well as in the water. Whatever Jessica does, she always gives it her best effort and, of course,
with a huge smile on her face. Her 4.0 GPA and her involvement in every extracurricular
activity possible show what this young woman is capable of.
Next up is Sheila Muir. The coolest thing I have learned about Sheila is her love for cars.
As a guy who also loves cars, I can’t help but feel intimidated by Sheila. I remember when she
told me that she knew how to take apart engines and put them back together. My jaw instantly
dropped and I was left in awe. So to Sheila, I want you to know that I’m very jealous of your
God-given talent.
5. Would Alex Munding please stand. Up until last year, Alex had long-flowing hair that
made him look like, well, Jesus. Our class always used to tease Alex that he should have been
born in the 60s because he loves everything about the Hippie era. But now as I see the “cleaned-
up” version of Alex, it is easy to see an intelligent and hardworking guy.
The next person that I would like to introduce is Helen Olsson. I hate to say it, but if it
wasn’t for Senior Survival, I don’t think I would have ever gotten to know the real Helen Olsson.
She is filled with so many hidden talents such as canoeing, cooking, singing, and not to mention
ditching people. Senior year has shown me the caring, hardworking, intelligent, and yes, crazy
sides of Helen.
The next person I would like to introduce is Helen’s twin sister, Ingrid Olsson. One of
the coolest things about Ingrid is what a gifted runner she is. There was this one time when our
class had to run a mile in which Ingrid beat everyone except for two guys. Along with running,
Ingrid also likes to sing. She is part of Voce and loves to sing with her sister, Helen.
Moving on to David Perez, or Big Baby Davey as I like to call him. I think the best thing
about Dave is his laugh. I always tell him I laugh just because he laughs. But I guess the best
moments I shared with David came from Senior Survival. It was funny to see him go down the
rapids and then see him run around because a leech was stuck to him. Dave hopes to use his
brute strength to become a Corrections Officer in a few years.
Would Rebecca Raposo could please stand. First and foremost, Rebecca is a beast. She
was canoeing partners with me and Helen during Senior Survival, in which she singlehandedly
canoed past all the other groups. Also, when Rebecca went on Mission Trip, I heard that she
carried more bags of cement than anyone else in the group. Whatever Rebecca does, she always
puts her best effort and with a huge smile. But one thing that Rebecca loves more than anything
6. is her Brazilian Pride. She is convinced that Brazilians are the most amazing people on earth,
and you could say that she does well to represent them.
The next person I would like to introduce is Katie Sassone. Katie, who is an employee of
Best Buy, knows everything about technology. If you ever have a question or problem with your
computer or camera, just ask Katie. Not only does she love technology, but she also loves
shopping and her two dogs, Rocket and Julie. Sometimes I think that she loves them even more
than her little brother, Richie.
Would Ashley Shand please stand up. Ashley never ceases to make me laugh. Every
time the teacher offers extra credit, Ashley just about goes crazy over the opportunity to boost
her grade. Ashley also loves her sleep. Whenever she gets a chance, she likes to take a quick
nap in class. But despite this, Ashley never falls asleep on the job as our Class Vice President.
She is always on top of her classmates and makes sure that they are ready for graduation.
The next person I would like to introduce is Joshua Sorto. If you ask anyone in our class
what makes Josh unique, every person would say that he loves to debate. You have to give him
props because he truly is grounded in everything that he believes in. And for that, you must
admire him greatly.
Last but not least, is me, Ashok Willmott. A few quick facts about myself. I love sports,
food, and spending time with family and friends. As I look back on these four years, I am so
thankful that I got to spend them with an awesome group of people. These graduates that you
see here are not just classmates. They have been like my second family and I will never forget
the awesome memories I shared with them.
In closing, I would like the class of 2009 to please stand. As you look at these graduates,
I hope you see what makes each of them truly special. When we first entered our freshman year,
7. we saw the potential that our class was capable of. We are not just ordinary kids; we are your
future doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers, chefs, auto mechanics, businessmen, pastors, and
maybe even Presidents. That is why we are the Class of 2009, and we are………SO FINE!
Thank you very much!
