How to Build a Fence with Hog Panels

  1. 1. How to Build a Fence with Hog PanelsHog panels are a very useful type of fencing that can be used for a variety of different purposes. Hog panelsare panels made out of thick galvanized steel, they are quite simple and easy to install and extremely durable. You can bend a hog panel to fit any shape of fence that you want. Hog panels are not only ideal for containingpigs but they also make a strong fence for cattle. You can also use them for horses without the risk of themgetting hurt with barbed wire. Hog panels are available in 4 and 6 ft sections and unlike field wire, it does nothave to be unrolled.Hog panels have a variety of applications. They are used to construct hog traps, hog pens along with otherstructures that have no relation whatsoever to hogs. A normal hog panel is about four feet tall and can befound at a local farm or livestock equipment store. Some people use other materials to make hog panels, suchas free discarded wooden pallets. It is also possible to use galvanized steel wire of the same size to make ahog panel by soldering them together, but this is not a recommended method for those who are looking for acost-effective way to build a hog panel fence. In order to construct a fence with hog panels, firstly, you need to mark the proposed fence line with the help ofground stakes. Insert a stake in the ground at a distance of about 8 feet from each other along the proposedfence line. These stakes will indicate the placement of your steel posts. Using the post driver, install the steelpost no less than one foot into the ground at every stake. You should ensure that the fence clip notch on thepost faces outward, away from the inside of the pen or enclosure.Align the hog panels with the steel posts and make sure that the hog panels rest against the smooth side of thesteel post. One end of the first panel should be touching the first steel post in that row. The end of the panelwill come into contact with the third post, allowing the second post to meet the panel right in the center. Start inthe middle of the panel at the second post and affix the panel to the post with the help of panel clips. Once thathas been done, secure the ends of the panels by repeating the process with the other two postsRepeat the same process with the other hog panels until you get to the desired length of the fence line. Tightenany corners that you may have by fastening them using fencing wire. For more information on Feedlot Panels, including other interesting and informative articles and photos, pleaseclick on this link: How to Build a Fence with Hog Panels
