Resident Evil

  1. 1.  Resident Evil was created in Japan by a man named Shinji Murakami.  It was first named “Biohazard,” however developers decided against it since the name was already trademarked.  With its explosive start on the PS1 in 1996, Murakami decided it was time to expand even more. This began a whole new micro-industry in the gaming world.  In Resident Evil, players had to navigate a house that was full of… well… evil. This included horror-based cinematic concepts, such as jump-scares and a persistent enemy.
  2. 2.  With its growing popularity, the Resident Evil Series spawned a whole host of spinoffs.  Though these spinoffs did not hurt production, they did not sell as well as the original game.
  3. 3.  Over the past several years, Murakami has been making a myriad of games, however Resident Evil has been one of the most successful.  The Resident Evil franchise has grown as it has aged: with newer technologies paving the way, as well as creative storytelling taking prevalence, loyal customers are staying satisfied and newcomers are taking interest.  Currently, The Resident Evil Series has sold over 60 million copies worldwide.
  4. 4. Just recently, Murakami stepped outside of his threshold, and has just published the new single player survival-horror game, The Evil Within, which has been doing very well.
