  5. 5. FBC’s Mission <ul><li>We will follow God’s gracious activity in Christ for the good of the world. FBC will: </li></ul><ul><li>WORSHIP the Living God! We will host a Sunday gathering that draws in people from all over the city for worship, Communion, baptism, beauty, healing, prayer, intergenerational fellowship and education </li></ul><ul><li>Seek to BE A PEOPLE of peace and well-being (inward journey of spiritual formation) </li></ul><ul><li>Seek to LIVE THE WAY of peace that contributes to the well-being of the city (outward journey of spiritual companionship) </li></ul>

Stategies, Goals, P & P, Objectives <ul><li>Strategies produce goals, which have plans & programs and one (or more) objectives </li></ul><ul><li>Strategies shape our direction </li></ul><ul><li>Goals are what we want to accomplish along the way </li></ul><ul><li>Plans & Programs are the “how” of achieving the goal </li></ul><ul><li>Objectives are the “ what ” of achieving the goals. They are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-limited. </li></ul>

Journeying Together: Worship (slide 1) STRATEGY GOAL P & P OBJECTIVE comments 1.0 WORSHIP 1.1 We worship the living God 1.1.1 A traditional, liturgical worship service 1.1.1.1 Incorporate spiritual practices/disciplines into morning service 1.1.1.2 Educate congregation on why’s & what’s of liturgy, symbols, etc.

Education & spiritual formation classes 1.6.2.1 Three series of teaching/year: fall, lent, post-easter. This may also include Jr/Sr high teaching when appropriate 1.6.3 Spiritual companionship gatherings 1.6.3.1 Believing pastoral care is for all, teach people how to care for one another as spiritual companions

Journey Inward: Be a People (slide 1) STRATEGY GOAL P & P OBJECTIVE comments 2.0 BE A PEOPLE (of peace and well-being) 2.1 Practice hospitality 2.1.1 Meals shared in homes 2.1.1.1 People are taught practical ways of hospitality 2.1.1.2 80% of FBC family units are sharing a meal with another family at least 1/month 2.2 Spiritual companionship 2.2.1 Spiritual companionship groups 2.2.1.1 The way of “Spiritual Direction Groups” will be taught and modelled 2.2.1.2 “Active listening” workshop will be done once/year

Journey Inward: Be a People (slide 3) STRATEGY GOAL P & P OBJECTIVE comments 2.0 BE A PEOPLE 2.4 A “ centre or community for spiritual formation ” ethos is created and nurtured 2.4.1 Develop a “ way ” for spiritual formation to be a part of our everyday lives 2.4.1.1 In the weekly life of our church people “show up for each other” for prayer, communion, pastoral care and spiritual companionship 2.4.1.2 A Spiritual Director’s list will be compiled and weekly appointments will be facilitated 2.4.1.3 A downtown network of churches will provide programs, prayer and sacred space

Journey Inward: Be a People (slide 4) STRATEGY GOAL P & P OBJECTIVE comments 2.0 BE A PEOPLE 2.4 A “ centre or community for spiritual formation ” ethos is created and nurtured 2.4.1 Develop a “ way ” for spiritual formation to be a part of our everyday lives 2.4.1.4 A 2-year certificate in Christian Spirituality will be made available to the congregants of FBC. A joint partnership with Rocky Mountain College in Calgary (Centre for Christian Spirituality) 2.4.1.5 A “mentoring voices” group will be established to give our church wisdom, encouragement and direction: Prociuk, Yates, Bellous, Peasgood, Mutch, Effa, etc.

Journey Outward: Live the Way (slide 1) STRATEGY GOAL P & P OBJECTIVE comments 3.0 LIVE THE WAY (of peace that contribute to the well-being of the city) 3.1 Incorporate the “BE & DO” philosophy of spiritual formation into existing ministries 3.1.1 Children’s ministry 3.1.1.1 Children learn to companion with one another and be engaged in practical acts of justice and mercy in the church and community 3.1.2 Youth ministry (gr. 7-12) 3.1.2.1 Youth learn to companion with one another and be engaged in practical acts of justice and mercy in the church and community 3.1.3 Young Adults ministry 3.1.3.1 Young Adults companion with one another and. . .

Inviting them to mentor, encourage and pray for the younger generation. 3.1.4.6 Pastoral care via a model of “priesthood of all believers.” Every member of FBC shares the task, cognizant of gifting and need.
