The Curse of Interest.Quran and the Prohibition of Riba. Al Rum (30:39) (revealed in the 6th year of Prophethood):And whatever you give for interest [i.e., advantage] to increasewithin the wealth of people will not increase with Allah But whatyou give in zakah, desiring the countenance of Allah – those arethe multipliers.. Aal-e-Imran (3:130) (revealed in the 3rd year of Hijrah):O you who have believed, do not consume usury, doubled andmultiplied, but fear Allah that you may be successful.. Al Nisa (4:160-161) (revealed in the 5th year of Hijrah):For wrongdoing on the part of the Jews, We made unlawfulfor them [certain] good foods which had been lawful to them, and for their averting from the way of Allah many [people],And [for] their taking of usury while they had been forbiddenfrom it, and their consuming of the peoples wealth unjustly. And We have prepared for the disbelievers among them apainful punishment..Al Baqarah (2: 275-276) (revealed in the 9th year of Hijrah):Those who consume interest cannot stand [on the Day ofResurrection] except as one stands who is being beaten by Sataninto insanity. That is because they say, "Trade is[just] likeinterest." But Allah has permitted trade and has forbiddeninterest. So whoever has received an admonition from hisLord and desists may have what is past, and his affair restswith Allah. But whoever returns [to dealing in interest orusury] – those are the companions of the Fire; they will abideeternally therein. Allah destroys interest and gives increase forcharities. And Allah does not like every sinning disbeliever.
. Ibid.. Al Baqarah (278-281):O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains[due to you] of interest, if you should be believers. And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] fromAllh and His Messenger. But if you repent, you may haveyour principal – [thus] you do no wrong, nor are you wronged. And if someone is in hardship, then [let there be] postponementuntil [a time of] ease. But if you give [from your right as] charity, then it is better for you, if you only knew. And fear a Day when you will be returned to Allah. Thenevery soul will be compensated for what it earned, and theywill not be wronged [i.e., treated unjustly].Sayings of RasulAllah (saw) on the Prohibition ofRiba::.
