KUTAMBA BLUE LUPIN COMMUNITY LIBRARY FIRST QUARTER REPORT ( JANUARY,
FEBRUARY AND MARCH 2022)
Introduction
Kutamba Blue Lupin Community library is located in Nyakishenyi sub-county Rukungiri district in south
western Uganda under Nyaka to enhance knowledge and community awareness through the use of ICT and
increased reading culture.
Library activities
The Library opens at 8:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday throughout the year.
The library provides a free reading room for students and members of the community to read newspapers
and textbooks to enhance knowledge and community awareness.
The library also provides a computer room comprised of 9 desktop computers and 4 laptops with access
to wireless internet. There is a librarian responsible for advising library users on how to get books, repairing
and ordering new books, keeping order in the library, computer training, printing, photocopying, scanning
services and management of the functional rooms.
Free computer lessons are provided to Nyaka staff members, primary and secondary school students during
the holiday.
The Library received 461 visits in a period of three months (Jan, Feb, march 2022).

Secondary school students
During the months of the third quarter 2022, 61 secondary school students visited Kutamba library with
the intention of finding information. Students who came to the library were from within and outside the
community. Most of the students, who got chance of accessing the library, used it profitably to get what
they wanted and all behaved well with not making noise, these secondary students were from different
schools. The Library received few secondary school students because the students are in their schools
studying.

Tertiary institution students
For the 1st
quarter of the year 2022, Kutamba library received 07 students from higher institutions of
learning like collages, universities, vocatinal schools.

Community members
40 People from the community managed to visit Kutamba library to acquire different services such as
reading books, newspapers, photocopying, internet, laminating etc.

Books borrowed from library
169 books were borrowed from the library by different Library users, these were mainly Kutamba staff
members, book club members, students from the community and members from the community who are
registered as library members. For one to become a member must pay a subscription of 10000/=
Also during the First quarter the Library received books which are being the returns from the borrowers

Book Clubs:
The Library visited two book clubs in the in the first quarter of 2022, the visited book clubs were Mukaka
book club. They read a book about Ebihikirizi by’omumaka no mumuhanda (problems faced in homes and
on the way). They were later given refreshments (soda and cakes) , these made them much excited. The
book teaches how to be mindful, how to be responsible,they also read Nkutebeze, they all liked the book
. There was Loud reading, questions and answers. The book does not teach only the young but also the old.
It teaches how to obey our subordinates, how african culture. It also teaches people to work hard, giving
respect.

Outreach/ Mobile Library
Kutamba Librarian made an out reach program to Kisizi school of Nursing and Midwifery. during the visit
the Librarian introduced herself to the Principal who later introduced her to the tutors. the tutors were
shocked by the kind of books they really needed to find them at Kutamba Library. These were 4 male tutors
and 3 female tutors.

Mobile Library at Kisizi hospital Primary school.
KOHA
Kutamba Library received Library volunteer and data entrant to manage KOHA, the data entrant has done
a very good job whereby 2552 books are already entered in the system.
However, there is still a need for more training on how to generate reports, getting Library cards adding in
Class room Library books as well as monitoring the progress. There fore l request Mr. Bagenyi Masereka
Henry to come back for the lacking information.

Conclusion
I really thank Nyaka Aids Orphans Project for the selfless empowerment by setting up a community Library
which is enhancing knowledge in the community.
