Producers, consumers and decomposers fatu camara 4ºa

  1. 1. PRODUCERS, CONSUMERS ANDDECOMPOSERS Fatu Camra 4º A
  2. 2. PRODUCERSProducers are organisms that produce organiccompounds from inorganic compounds. These arealso a type of autotroph. Producers are living thingsthat can make their own food using air, light, soil, andwater. An autotroph is an organism that makes its own foodfrom inorganic substances. It is then eaten by aconsumer if it is a plant for example.
  3. 3. EXAMPLEPlants use a process called photosynthesis to makefood.Only them can produce their own food.So they are a very good exmple of producers becausethey make their own food using sunlight, air, nutrientsand water.
  4. 4. CONSUMERSA consumer is the organisms that obtain nutrientsfrom other organisms. This is also heterotroph. They are organisms that are not able to make theirown food so they get already done.Consumers are the next link in a food chain.A heterotroph is an organism that cannotsynthesize their own food and must obtian it readymade .
  5. 5. TYPES OFCONSUMERS/HETEROTROPHSThere are three levels of consumers.(but not all theanimals are clasified obligatory in them)It all depends on what the animals eat and howthey obtain the food they need. Heterotrophsinclude herbivores, carnivores, omnivores.Herbivores or Primary Consumers:They areanimals that feed only on plants.Eg:Rabbits, cattle, horses, sheep and deer .
  6. 6. TYPES-Carnivores or Secondary Consumers:They areanimals that feed on other animals. They eat theprimary consumers. Some carnivores may be - Predators, such as lions, hawks, and wolves whoattack and kill their prey and feed on their bodies.-Scavengers, they feed on dead animals that they find.
  7. 7. TYPESThere are also consumers called omnivores.Omnivores can either be secondary or tertiaryconsumers-Omnivores are living beings that feed on bothplants and animals.Eg:HUman and bears.
  8. 8. DECOMPOSERSA decomposer is an organism of decay. These arealso known as saprobes. They break down theremaines of dead animals and plants, releasing thesubstances that can be used by other members of theecosystem.Decomposers are an essential component of anyecosystem. Their main role is to recycle nutrients indead organisms and their wastes.Eg:bacteria andfungi.
