1) I have heard that the role of sales force or medical reps is important for a
medical doctor. I’d like to ask your views on how important is it and why?
In this way you get to know about the brands and medicines commonly given in the
market. You get to know about name of the drugs. In medical school you only learn about
generic name and in our country it’s a trend; not just our country but other countries as
well that we go for brand medications so of course, it is of great importance. As far as
judging the medical rep is concerned I believe that someone who is respectful to doctors
and someone who’s not trying to over smart the doctor by telling the doctors something
that he thinks they might not know, which 90% of the doctors know. So, someone who’s
trying to over smart or overshadow the doctor, is disrespectful, is not promoting a good
product, is too greedy for a promotion and you know asking for favors that arenot possible
for doctors to do.
The thing that you mentioned that medical representatives often ask for
favors; that’sinterestingbecause there’s this belief that thedoctorsare asked
by these pharmaceutical companiestoprescribe theirmedications. Does this
happen?
Yes, it does happen and This has happened with me as well that a medical representative
came tome and said that if you write the name of our brand, we will transfer some money
to your account which I did not agree upon. I don’t find it ethical to accept bribes from
someone. So, yeah someone who is trying to bribe the doctors is definitely not a good
medical representative.
In your own area of medical service, which brands do you use and why?
In my medical practice I have been using quite a lot of brands and I believe that I would
endorse the brand that I have used myself. So, for example for pain relief because we all
suffer pain; if I have used a particular brand then I would endorse it. I have seen the
results for example Statin, Rovista, ezetimibe for which the most well reputed brand is
name is Ezita So, if someone has chest infection then we usually go for Leflox but the
brand name that is usually good and is effective in treating the infection at early stages is
Levite which is brand name for Leevofloxacin

On what basis do you select these brands for prescriptions.
So I get to know about these things from consultant and I keep asking them which is the
most effective brand it does not necessarily have to be very expensive but a cost efficient
product can be helpful for the patient as well. So, I cannot name one brand per say; there
are too many.
I don’t really select a product, if a product is nice I would use it and would give a trial to a
few patients and I would keep them on follow ups. If it responds well, well and good. If it
doesn’t I prescribe a drug on the basis of its efficacy and that’s about it.
Which brands have proved to be very good for you
Well, not any particular brand but there are many from different companies. Sometimes
a particular brand has really good medications while others are not that effective. But
generally speaking yes, Abbott, Gsk, Getz pharma, Novartis pharma ltd, Sanofi
pharmaceuticals these are pretty good companies and they hardly disappoint.
How do you select these brands?
I select it on the basis of its efficacy and by asking my seniors and consultants that which
one is the best and then we slowly start prescribing and we see the results in the follow up
and the one that is performing the best and has people appreciating the effects of the drug
when they come for follow up so I start prescribing it and that’s about it.
