  1. 1. WA Young Readers’ Book Award This is great! WAYRBA 2012
  2. 2. The West Australian Young Readers’ Book Award (WAYRBA) is a readers’ choice awardorganised on a state wide basis for young readers.
  3. 3. WAYRBA aims to promote reading-To give recognition to those whoread and write children’s literature.To provide a focus for the mutualinterest of those concerned withchildren and their literature.
  4. 4. WA Young Readers’ Book Award is modelledon similar programmes in the United States. In July 1979, the School Libraries Section (WA Group) of the Australian Library & Information Association appointed a subcommittee in to investigate the establishment of an award for Western Australia’s young readers. In March 1980, the WAYRBA was officially launched.
  5. 5. Organisation of Award• The Award operates on two levels.• Younger Readers• and• Older Readers• Both public and school libraries throughout the state can participate.
  6. 6. Beginning of the Year• Newsletter with information on how to participate• Reading list• Nomination form• Voting form• Order form• Schedule of events
  7. 7. You will receive your beginning of the year newsletter throughthe post. If you don’t receive your newsletter, it can be found on our website. http://wayrba.org.au/
  8. 8. There is merchandise you can purchase to help promote WAYRBA. • Posters • Stickers • Book Marks
  9. 9. Every year we have a new poster.We’ve even had high school students design the posters.

  12. 12. You can also purchasebookmarks and coloured stickers. The stickers help identify thebooks on the current reading list. You can participate without purchasing merchandise.
  13. 13. The sale of the merchandise pays for the newsletters, postage as well asother costs involved in running the award.
  14. 14. Nominating a book for the reading lists. • Books are nominated by students and can be sent to us at any time during the year.
  15. 15. To be eligible for the reading list, a book must be - •Published within the last five years •Currently in print •The author must be alive
