Raha International School – Middle Years Programme
Raha International School is proud to offer the International Baccalaureate's Middle Years
Programme for students in Grades 6-10. The Middle Years Programme is specifically designed for
students aged 11 to 16 years when students are making the transition from early puberty to mid –
adolescence. This time of life is characterized by significant period of personable, social and intellectual
development, of uncertainty and questioning. The MYP is designed to assist students in their search for
a sense of place in their world. It is programme based on best practice, educational research and
informed development. It is a programme that is rigorous and challenging, yet flexible enough to allow
for the adoption of national standards as needed. At Raha International School, we have implemented
the MYP along with the required courses of the local Ministry of Education. The programme model
places the learner at its centre highlighting the belief in educating the whole person and placing
importance on student inquiry. The final year of the programme includes the completion of an
extended, independent inquiry by each Grade 10 student called the Personal Project.
The MYP at Raha International School is based on a set of principles that are deeply rooted in
international education. We are a community of learners who aim to develop the qualities of
international mindedness outlined in the IB learner profile. The programme is designed to provide
opportunities for students to develop, challenge and reflect upon their personal value systems. The

development of these value systems and the ability to make sound judgments are seen as key
components of adolescent development. The MYP is based on three fundamental concepts that help
meet the needs of adolescent learners and goals of international education: holistic learning,
intercultural awareness and communication.
Raha International School offers a balanced curriculum model that allows for discipline specific study but
is deeply rooted in contexts and connections that provide opportunities for students to explore how
their studies at school are connected to their real world. These contexts are called the MYP Areas of
Interaction and are common perspectives or areas of student inquiry that form the basis of teaching and
learning in the MYP. The five Areas of Interaction are Approaches to Learning, Community and Service,
Health and Social Education, Environments and Human Ingenuity. The curriculum framework includes
the knowledge, skills, application and attitudes that students need to be confident citizens of the world.
