The Stormwater Planning Division (SWPD) of theDepartment of Public Works and Environmental Serviceswill be undertaking pond/lake improvement projectsthis spring and summer on Lake Huntsman (SpringfieldDistrict) and Brookfield Park pond (Lee District). Anecessary action for both of these projects includesdraining the ponds/lakes prior to construction.
  3. 3. Both of these ponds/lakes harbor fish communitiesthat may be impacted. To preserve these livingresources, staff of SWPD is overseeing the collection,removal and relocation of the fish before drainingbegins. This will be in coordination with the FairfaxCounty Park Authority and the Virginia Department ofGame and Inland Fisheries
  4. 4. Fish will be collected by an electrofishing boat, whichuses electrical current to temporarily stun and capturethe fish. The fish will then be moved in a specialtransport truck and released into nearby ponds/lakes.Fish collected from Lake Huntsman will be relocated toLake Mercer, while the fish collected from theBrookfield Park pond will be released into LakeAccotink.
  5. 5. Once construction is complete, Lake Huntsman andBrookfield Park pond will be restocked with new fish.Lake Barton was recently restocked following thedredging and improvement project that occurred in2011.
