  2. 2. The Jellyfish <ul><li>The ocean current as a metaphor of fate. </li></ul><ul><li>The interaction of jellyfish and current as man helpless against fate. </li></ul><ul><li>Ocean and dry land as two different worlds. </li></ul>
  3. 3. The Drugs <ul><li>George wakes up and stumbles around in a stupor. </li></ul><ul><li>The elevator guard, Mannie, calls a medic from another floor in the building. </li></ul><ul><li>The medic treats George, but notices he has been abusing drugs. </li></ul><ul><li>George is required to undergo voluntary therapy. </li></ul>

The Shrink <ul><li>George hardly tells Haber anything about himself, but Haber deduces a lot from observations. </li></ul><ul><li>George says that his dreams change reality and that he killed his creepy aunt with a dream. </li></ul><ul><li>Haber hypnotizes George and induces him to have an “effective” Dream. </li></ul>
  5. 5. The Mountain & the Horse <ul><li>Haber has George dream of a horse. </li></ul><ul><li>When George awakens, the mural that was of a mountain has become the mural of a horse. </li></ul><ul><li>Haber’s memory seems to transition from the mural being a mountain to being a horse. </li></ul>
  6. 6. The Horse & the Mountain <ul><li>This time when George is hypnotized, he becomes the jellyfish on dry land, immobile and unmoved by the ocean. </li></ul><ul><li>He dreamt the horse shat a mountain, and now the horse mural is the mountain again. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Sunny in Portland <ul><li>Haber refuses to allow George to recall the suggestions he uses in hypnosis. </li></ul><ul><li>George’s next dream involves JFK and Haber walking in the rain. Haber takes JFK’s umbrella and it stops raining. </li></ul><ul><li>The constantly rainy weather of Portland changes to sunny weather. </li></ul>
  8. 8. A Lawyer <ul><li>George asks Miss Lelache, a lawyer, to observe one of his sessions with Haber. </li></ul><ul><li>Lelache fantasizes about crushing and destroying George. </li></ul><ul><li>Over the course of a few minutes, she realizes that she likes him and agrees to help him. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Questions <ul><li>Is George a man dreaming he is a jellyfish, or a jellyfish dreaming he is a man? </li></ul><ul><li>Does Haber know that the dreams can effect changes in reality? </li></ul><ul><li>Is George sane? What about the others he interacts with – are they sane? </li></ul>
