  1. 1. In what ways does yourmedia product use, develop or challengeforms and conventionsof real media products?
  2. 2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? LOCATION The locations of the films we researched were out on the streets and were hardly filmed in buildings except from green street which the opening scene opened on a airport. Also Snatch included like a dodgy business location where gambling took place and stolen goods such as jewellery were passed around. In other film openings such as Football Factory and Lock Stock and two smoking barrels the main locations used were back streets. We used lanes and streets to film ours so that they fitted the conventions for our type of genre. Both of these opening were filmed in daylight, even though the snapshot of them in the lane is darker when they are running away, it is during the day that they are selling the goods in Lock Stock. 3. 3. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? EDITINGIn the film Snatch (A Guy Ritchie film) they use freeze frames to introduce the character, theypause the clip on a picture that says a lot about someone’s personality and titles come up toshow their name, or nickname which is another convention of our type of genre. As a group wedecided that we liked this idea of introducing the characters and saying a little bit of narrativeover the top so the audience felt as if they understood their personalities and what they werelike. Our character was a bit of a push around, which I think is portrayed well in this freezeframe. Snatch
  4. 4. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?ACTING AND CHARACTERISTICS Lock Stock and Two Smoking BarrelsIn every film opening we looked up the main conventionsinvolved were witty humour and sneaky and the audience arekept in the dark not knowing what they’re up to. British realistgangster films such as Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrelsinclude a cockney accent as well. If ours could be compared toone of the films we researched id say ours is most like LockStock and Two Smoking Barrels, I think this because wefollowed most of their conventions such as the cockney accentand the dodgy dealing at the start where you are unsure ofwhat they’re up to. In Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrelsthere is a chase scene from the police to show the audiencethat they’re sneaky and what they are doing isn’t legal. Wedidn’t follow this convention and include a chase scenebecause in the first two minutes we didn’t want to reveal theplot and so we decided to leave this out. The opening scene toFootball Factory includes a fight, this is a convention we alsochose not to include because we thought it would be difficultto act out and it also wasn’t necessary for our story line. I thinkwe followed the conventions to fit the genre that we werestudying and I think that from our final media product you cantell what genre of films it is and can guess what is roughly goingto happen in the rest of the film. Because gangster films targetaudience is for men, they are normally quite action based andsneaky with rough men actors, so we challenged theconventions by having a ladies man in there and someonewho’s a bit dopey, just to make it a bit more personal and ourown.
  5. 5. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?COSTUMES AND PROPSThe clothes worn within this genre are very smart and includethe clothing that we found when doing our research. Below inSnatch is Jason Statham (a well known gangster actor) who isdressed very smartly. Their clothing is quite expensive and weas an audience know that the only way they can afford theirclothes is by all the sneaky things that they get up to. Howeverwithin our films we couldn’t use famous well known actors whowould fit the role such as Jason Statham but if we could pickour actors, someone like him would be ideal for the role.Within our own film we included leather jackets, ties, and theshoes that would be worn within that genre. Our actors weredressed up very smart so that our own media product wouldmeet the convention of real media products already out theretoday. Snatch
  6. 6. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? TITLESWhen researching titles used in the openingscenes of gangster movies, we noticed thatbold lettering is used and the letters aren’tthin, they were normally quite chunky fonts. However for example football factory, thebreak ups within the letters is done like thatto make it look like a football. And all thefonts differed depending on the titles andwhat was included within their films. So wedecided to stick to the conventions of thecapital letters and thick chunky texts, andalso we noticed how they were normallyblack with white writing, for example footballfactory. We also used this convention tocreate our final media product. However wethought our font suited our genre of film andthe title of the film, we thought the textlooked quite patchy and shady like someblanks needed filling in, which is kind of thepoint of the movie too so we thought thetitle was relevant and fitted the conventionsfor a real media product.
