  3. 3. DZS...The Centre for International Services (DZS) is directly managed andsubsidised by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Underthe guise of the DZS, the National Agency for European EducationalProgrammes (NAEP) was established and is responsible for theimplementation of the Lifelong Learning Programme and othereducational programmes in the Czech Republic. NAEP offers promotionof educational programmes, assistance and consultancy services,management of funds and contracts for decentralized actions,monitoring, dissemination and valorisation and organisation of seminarsand conferences. The DZS is managing other activities aimed atinternational cooperation of schools, study possibilities for foreigners inthe Czech Republic and collaboration with other European Ministries ofEducation in the field of ICT in education.   4. 4. DGIDC...DGIDC is the Directorate-General of Innovation and CurricularDevelopment (Direcção – Geral de Inovação e DesenvolvimentoCurricular) of the Portuguese Ministry of Education. DGIDC has a specificmission to conceive, develop, coordinate and evaluate the pedagogicaland didactic components of all levels of school education (pre-school,school, special needs, specialized teaching, eLearning) as well as todevelop specific programs and measures to reduce school drop-outlevels. Within a specific team, DGIDC also deals with the conception,development and evaluation of initiatives concerned with the use ofcomputers, and technological resources in the learning process andpromotes the effective use of computers and Internet by all educationalagents (students and teachers alike). OBJECTIVES of Spice• To establish a Science Pedagogy Innovation Centre for Europe• To collect, analyze, validate and disseminate innovative pedagogical initiatives, in Maths, Science and Technology, labelled as Good Practices (GP)• Especially those GP based on inquiry-based learning• Mostly ICT-based GP• Enhancing pupil motivation for science studies (at primary/secondary level)• The good practice criteria will allow new initiatives to have guidelines to ensure their innovation and quality. to help teachers Spice summer academy 2011, Prague, 26 – 28 August 2011

THE BIG PICTURE (step 0)• A teacher panel, along with a science expert panel, from 16 educational systems from 15 European countries, will help the SPICE partners in defining good practice projects that will then be tested in schools in countries different to the one where the projects come from.• Results of those trials will be shared on the occasion of a Summer school organized by DZS in the Czech Republic (26-29 August 2011). EXPECTED OUTCOMES AND RESULTS• The dissemination of innovative pedagogical practice in MST subjects.• The good practice criteria will allow new initiatives to have guidelines to ensure their innovation and quality.• Understand conditions for travel well initatives.• SPICE teachers will actively contribute to the Communities of Practice (CoPs) beyond their launch, which will take place during the Summer school.
