Cyprus is located in the Mediterranean Sea and has a population of around 826,000 people living in an area of 92,511 square kilometers. The capital and largest city is Nicosia, and the government is a republic with Tassos Papadopoulos as president. The official language is Greek but Turkish is also widely spoken due to the Greek and Turkish ethnic populations on the island, and the main religions are Greek Orthodox Christianity and Sunni Islam.
