HISTORY The Band of the Royal City of Gáldar (Gran Canaria) was born on April 6,1867. It is a component of the Federation of Bands Gran Canaria and of the Regional Federation of Bands Canaria.
It was founded through a grant with only fifteen components. Throughout its 145 years of history there have been different leaders: it raises to a total of 13. Highlighted the following:
José Rodríguez MirandaThe first conductor of the Band of the RoyalCity of Gáldar, accompanied by the sub D.Francisco Vega.
José Martin BatistaConductor for a period of thirty-five years. Heplayed the euphonium.
Ascencio Enrique RuanoBand Conductor from Icod on the island ofTenerife, exchange office with Sir JoseBasin Alburger which belonged the batonof the Band of the Royal City of Gáldar.
Isidro Medina QuintanaKnown as “Isidrito”.Conductor and memberof the band then.He played thesaxophone and later theclarinet.He devoted all his life tomusic and to the Bandof Gáldar since he was11 years old.
Sir Rubén Guerrero OrtizCurrently leads thebaton of the Band ofthe City of Gáldar.He was born in theRoyal City of Gáldarin 1980, and holds thehonor of being theyoungest director ofvocational training.
He plays the hornand has beeninvited by severalorchestras in andout of the island.debuting at only16 years as asoloist at theFestival de laZarzuela in LasPalmas.
During its 145 year history this band has offered a rich repertoire, which covers all types of musical genre.
Awards and competitionsThe most noteworthy: -Represent Spain at the XI International Band Festival in Besana, Brianza, held in the Italian province of Milan, 2003.-The Gold Medal of the city, 2008.-Represent Spain in the Second Wind Band Festival in Santa Susanna, Barcelona, 2009.
DiscographyIn 2004 the Band ofGáldar, launches hisfirst album to themarket in live entirelycomposed of eightthemes.
Other projects-Collaboration as a guest band in the recording of "La Bodega de Julian" together with the popular music group Guaraifa, Mari Carmen Estevez and Naty Saavedra as soloists, directed by Ruben Ortiz Guerrero April 15, 2005.-The recording of the anthem of the Union Deportiva Las Palmas, arranged by Rubén Ortiz Guerrero in 2009, recorded at the Marble Yamaha Studios in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. -Collaboration in the play "El Malspina" Theatre Group of the Royal City of Gáldar, under the leadership of Tito Santana on July 22, 2009 on the occasion of the feast of St. James Apostle.
MembersOf about seventymembers fromconservatories andmusic schools. It wasthe first Band of theisland to incorporatewomen ascomponents.
With its own history and its characteristics this group hasbeen and still is a new opportunity for young students ofmusic schools, conservatories and fans in general whohave chosen to devote some of their free time to practiseit in a Band as historic as this of Gáldar concerning culturein the municipality.
