HOW TO WRITE A NARRATIVE
In a narrative we tell a story or recount an event. The story can be true or imaginary.
We usually use past tenses.
STRUCTURE
Beginning- middle-end.
CONTENT
-Make your story as interesting and exciting as possible.
- Use a variety of verbs, adverbs and adjectives to add interest.
- Talk about the atmosphere and your feelings.
- Use a range of past tenses.
- Use sequencing words and linkers to indicate the order of events.
USEFUL LANGUAGE
STARTING: I had never been so excited/ happy, etc. / It was the best /worst day of my life. /It
was completely dark. / I will always remember/ One of my happiest/worst memories.
TIME EXPRESSIONS: one day /last week / since / at midnight.
TIME LINKS: Before / first / after that, etc.
ADVERBS OF MANNER: angrily/ happily /quietly
ADVERBS OF DEGREE: really / extremely
ADVERBS OF OPINION: amazingly / luckily /surprisingly
FEELINGS: surprised / excited/ scared / lonely
ENDING: In the end/ Never again!
