INFLAMMATION OF THE SKIN <ul><li>the inflammation of the skin is called dermatitis (der-mah-TYE-tis) </li></ul><ul><li>There are different types of dermatitis. </li></ul><ul><li>All have in common an allergic reaction to specific allergens. </li></ul><ul><li>The term may be used to refer to eczema, which is also known as dermatitis eczema or eczematous dermatitis. </li></ul><ul><li>A diagnosis of eczema often implies childhood or atopic dermatitis, but without proper context, it means nothing more than a &quot;rash&quot;. </li></ul>

  9. 9. - DERMA (SUFFIX) <ul><li>ITCHYODERMA- Scaly or dry Skin. </li></ul><ul><li>LEUKODERMA – white skin. </li></ul><ul><li>ERYTHRODERMAH- Red skin. </li></ul>

COMBINING ONYCH/O <ul><li>This means nails. </li></ul><ul><li>ONYCHOMALACIA – softening of the nails. </li></ul><ul><li>ONYCHOMYCOSIS – Infection around the nail. </li></ul><ul><li>ONYCHIOPHAGIA - or nail biting is a common oral compulsive habit in children and adults. </li></ul><ul><li>ONYCHECTOMY – removal of a nail. </li></ul>
