It is true that sustainable growth will save the earth form being exploited, but on the other
side of the coin the fact is that this development has now remained a hype and no more a reality
in the construction industry. I agree with this fact that there exists not much of sustainability in
activities of construction and in favor of this line. The issue has become a buzz when everyone in
the industry wants to escape this matter in orderto use resources to their fullest. It is often
misused and abused by all those who are into the exploitation of sustainable development
commercially (Nandi, 2011). It is being argued that whether it is possible to achieve this in a
global market place.

I agree with this fact that there exists not much of sustainability in activities of construction and in favor of this line. The issue has become a buzz when everyone in the industry wants to escape this matter in orderto use resources to their fullest. It is often misused and abused by all those who are into the exploitation of sustainable development commercially (Nandi, 2011). It is being argued that whether it is possible to achieve this in a global market place. which is that of economic success. The issues of environmental protection many a times hamper the effectiveness in construction and then eventually the success is reduced in financial terms. It has been often argued by companies in this business that this concept not only lead to added costs but also an extra regulation to be remembered by builders apart for other things to be kept in mind (Murray and Cotgrave, 2007). For them, protection of environment is not of highest priority because recommendations provided to them are not satisfactory. Application of this theory to attract people towards their buildings owes its reason to the use of such sustainable practices which will lead to increased. Also, if a little use of sustainable practices is done in their business, then it is to fulfill the requirement of set standards complying with the formed regulations (Alkhaddar and et. al., 2012). According to me, sustainabilityhas become a kind of myth because making use of such practices will be used as major tool of marketing the services of the company. In reality, the practices are not followed but are advertised in such a manner that all construction has been done in such a way that environment can be safeguarded (Presley and Meade, 2010). It happens because in many countries there is easy access to raw materials that are cheap but on the same time they are of low quality also. Due to this, investment in sustainable activities is quite low and machinery and equipment that is environment friendly is not used much. Rather, it all has become an easy publicity tool construction con tractors to sell their products (Glass, 2012). The main problem with sustainability is that it is never under a defined time frame. It is possible that various products used during construction might be sustainable and not lead to
  3. 3. Email: help@essaylive.co.uk, Phone: (UK) +44 203 3555 345 Website: www.essaylive.co.uk pollution, but in the long run the over use of it may cause harmful effects. Also, this is devoid of true conceptthat one will never know about when it has achieved sustainability so the contractors do not go for this concept (Kibert, 2012). It has been publicized by them that they use those equipments which will not harm environment but is a true fact that today there is an increasing use of air conditioners and cooling machines due to which an additional amount of chlorofluoro carbons are released in to the atmosphere. This causes a harmful impact on environment as a whole (Francese and et. al., 2012).This is backed by many different challenges in this industry. I think that there is a poor record of taking more steps towards this concept in this industry. It is so because it leads to an increase in the costs for builders which they think is not beneficial to them. Also, this thought varies for different people and is yet not clear to designers as how they can make use of resources in order to gain sustainability in a way that it is not used in reality. Email: help@essaylive.co.uk, Phone: (UK) +44 203 3555 345 Website: www.essaylive.co.uk Another thing what I think is that since there is no estimation of usage of energy or technology during construction by these companies, therefore thebuildings will not harm environment does not find any justification. Also, it cannot be predicted that what will be the impact of these activities on future global and regional areas proving that all construction is done without harming the natural resources has no standpoint. This is done in order to increase its customers who believe that all structures are made with appropriate processes, but in reality the fact is that the only objective is to attain economic profits or gains (Thompson and Sorvig, 2000). Often it is said that technology utilized during construction is of latest one that is environment friendly, but the reality is that traditional methods are used in the operations. Use of such methods will lead to increase in costs for the company and will cause reduced profits. So, according to me, it is only a hype created by them that they use improved equipment but while cross checking with reality, it may lead to misleading results (Ma, 2012).
