Google Earth Step By Step Directions

Using Google Earth in the Classroom Notes for Participants Fast How To’s: Placemarks – • At the Google menu bar – Add > Placemark • At the Google tool bar – Click on the yellow pushpin icon • Enter text (Name and Description) in the popup window • Place the pulsating icon where you want it to rest before clicking OK • To change – select – Edit > Get Info (Mac); Edit > Properties (PC) • To format text – Click on Style, Color in the popup window • To change icon – click on image of placemark icon on top right of popup window Photos – • At the Google menu bar – Add > Photo • Enter text (Name and Description) • Browse for the photograph on your computer • OR: For photos that are living online (photobucket, etc) – copy and paste html into description area of a placemark’s popup window • To make changes – select – Edit > Get Info (Mac); Edit > Properties (PC) Paths – • At the Google menu bar – Add > Path • At the Google tool bar – Click on the 3-point path icon • Click and move the cursor, lay down points until you reach your destination. • To make changes – select – Edit > Get Info (Mac); Edit > Properties (PC) Saving the file – 1
  2. 2. • At the Google menu bar – Add > Folder • Name the folder • Drag and drop all pieces of your trip into the folder so that the item at the top is the first one you want to see. • Have the folder selected and then at the Google menu bar – File > Save > Save Place As • At the popup make sure you are saving as a .kmz file • Save on your desktop or somewhere in your documents • This file can be saved to a travel drive, or emailed as an attachment • In order to open the file, you need to have Google Earth installed Remember, you should delete (Edit > Delete) your file from Google Earth when you’re finished showing it. Since you saved it as a .kmz file, you will always have it to show another time.
