ESA will host the 6th European Conference on Space Debris at its European Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany, 22–25 April. The four-day event will spotlight the risks posed to space exploration by the growing number of debris objects in near-Earth space.
6th European Conference on Space Debris Media & PR oriented programme (Draft V4) at ESAs Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt/Germany, 22-25 April 2013Venue: Conference Centre ESA/ESOC, H-buildung.Background: The conference will provide a forum for leading scientists, engineers and managers, butalso journalists, from all major spacefaring nations, including space operators, industry, academia andpolicy bodies. The objective is to present the latest findings, discuss policy and technical options and helpdefine future directions for research on all aspects of Space Debris.Monday, 22 April09:00-12:00 hopening plenary session with technical presentations addressing key aspects of theconference09:00-09:30 hOpening keynote speech:“Space Debris risks from the Astronaut perspective” - ESA-Astronaut and former Head ofEurope’s Columbus Control Centre, Reinhold Ewald09:30-09:40 hIntroduction to the 6th European Conference on Space Debris; event logistics,Prof. Heiner Klinkrad, Head of ESA Space Debris Office, Conference chair.Opening Session chairs: Manuel Metz, DLR, Fernand Alby, CNES09:40 - 10:00 hOrbital Debris: Past, Present, and Future (Eugene Stansbery & Nicholas Johnson, NASA OrbitalDebris Program Office - tbc)10:00 - 10:20 hStability of the Future Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Environment – An IADC Comparison Study(Jer-Chi Liou, NASA Orbital Debris, A.
