  3. 3. Birds There are about 9,000 species of birds. Classification: Kingdom- Animalia Phylum- Chordata Class- Aves Order- 3 main orders of birds.
  4. 4. Birds Order: Psittaciformes  Ex. Parrots, cockatoos, macaws, lories, parakeets
  5. 5. Orders of Birds Order: Piciformes  Woodpeckers, toucans
  6. 6. Orders of Birds Order: Passeriformes  Perching birds  this order contains about 60% of all bird species

  9. 9. Types of Feathers Feathers: 1. Contour feathers – give shape (aerodynamic) 2. Flight feathers – allow birds to fly 3. Down feathers – provide warmth 4. Powder-down feathers – make them waterproof (because of powder).
