Context About animism Winnicott: an extension of the mother through transitional objects and transitional spaces Piaget and Freud: a structuring ability to appropriate the world, decreasing from childhood to adulthood. ! In animist tribes: a growing ability to become wise, seeking for an harmonious relationship with the world. ! Bruno Latour: a capacity to ‘animate the world’, without cartesian duality. Nurit Bird-David: a relational epistemology. That is self-identity among animists is based on their relationship with others. Therefore animists identify themselves to the world, both as within and appart. ! In any case, this is a transformation process building on relationships and interdependancies.

Engage Nokia, 2006 Anticipates a potential disruption from the combination of increasing number of embedded sensors in smartphones, and the internet-telecom convergence leading towards integration of data as fluids. Aims at exploring emerging meanings of connecting people in this context. The Nabaztab, and the Finish tradition lead to explore animism as a key to innovate within these new conditions. ! The ambition is not to develop AI, an embedded spirit, or to enchant (in the sense of magic), but to enchant to engage. In that respect, it was about exploring new metaphors for emerging experiences, and be inspired by some manifestation transforming/evolutive experiences. Engage in new relationships, in new experiences, and develop autonomy progressively. ! The aim was to deliver an actionable translation of animism, as a generative tool, as well as a guidance in the form of principles and experience qualities, a roadmap. ! This work was co-lead with Nicolas Geraud, @ InProcess at the time.
