INTRODUCTIONProblem BackgroundIn 1990’s the government embarked on embarked oneconomic reforms which included:•Abolition of price controls.•Deregulate downstream petroleum marketoperations.•Liberalization of distribution and pricing of petroleumproducts supply.•Liberalization of transportation modes.•Abolition of NOCK’s 30% crude oil supply quota.
PROBLEM STATEMENTSWhat has been observedFuel Market•Deregulation of retail prices of petroleum products hasnot closely followed the changes in international oilprices.•Oil companies are quick to adjust retail petroleumprices upwards when international oil prices are risingand slow to lower prices when oil prices are falling.
OBJECTIVES• Develop a web mapping application and sms system that will enable vehicle users find petrol station with the lowest fuel price.• Add tools to the website and sms system to enable users navigate and to any petrol station within Nairobi through short code sms queries.• Enable users find shortest route with minimum traffic within Nairobi using network analysis and cartographic techniques.
