  2. 2. Why a CLIL project? <ul><li>The main aim of the project is to improve the academic and professional results of our students using English to learn non-linguistic subjects. </li></ul>
  3. 3. How boys feel about English <ul><li>15 year old boys studying in Enric Borràs think that the most useful subjects are English and Maths </li></ul>
  4. 4. How girls feel about English <ul><li>15 year old girls studying in Enric Borràs think that the most useful subjects are English and Maths </li></ul>

  6. 6. Not so good… <ul><li>Half of the students don’t like English, which means no interest, no motivation, no effort… no learning. </li></ul>

  8. 8. Why not doing these things in English?

What subjects? <ul><li>Art (elective subject, 4th ESO) </li></ul><ul><li>Mathematics : My first visit to Maths in English (elective subject, 3rd/4th ESO) </li></ul><ul><li>Technology (workshop practice, 1st, 2nd or 3rd ESO) </li></ul><ul><li>Science (laboratory practice, 1st, 2nd or 3rd ESO) </li></ul><ul><li>History : History books and historic cinema (elective subject 1st/2nd ESO) </li></ul>

What we want to achieve <ul><ul><li>To improve the communicative competence of the students. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>To increase the motivation and the interest of the students to learn English in real situations where they need to use the foreign language. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>To use the spoken language in all the classroom interactions: teacher-student, student-teacher, student-student. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>To use all the available ICT tools for searching, editing and producing information and for the communication between teacher and student and between students. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>To use the foreign language to learn the content of non-linguistic subjects. </li></ul></ul>
  11. 11. How many teachers ? <ul><li>English: 2 teachers </li></ul><ul><li>Art: 1 teacher </li></ul><ul><li>Mathematics: 1 teacher </li></ul><ul><li>Technology: 3 teachers </li></ul><ul><li>Science: 2 teachers </li></ul><ul><li>History: 1 teacher </li></ul>
  12. 12. How many students? In 2010-2011: <ul><li>1st ESO: 120 students (5 groups) have 1 of the 2 hours of Technology in English. </li></ul><ul><li>4th ESO: 20 students of Art (elective subject). There are two groups of Art, one in Catalan and the other in English. </li></ul><ul><li>4th ESO: 20 students of 4B (low level group) have learnt a part of the Mathematics (Statistics) in English. </li></ul>
  13. 13. What teachers have learnt <ul><li>We have learnt that you don’t have to be an expert to use technology. </li></ul><ul><li>Students know a lot about technology. Why not to use their knowledge? </li></ul>
  14. 14. What teachers have learnt <ul><li>Teachers of English and teachers of other subjects have learnt to work as a cooperative team. </li></ul><ul><li>We need to do it!!! </li></ul>
  15. 15. What teachers have learnt <ul><li>We need to prepare activities to make students think, speak and learn. </li></ul><ul><li>More student talk, less teacher talk. </li></ul>
