Description is giving details about a person, place, thing, etc. that allows the reader to experience what you have,[object Object],In order to create a good description you must appeal to the five senses and create pictures in the readers mind. ,[object Object],What is description?,[object Object]

LOOK!,[object Object],The first thing you have to do is to observe your environment.,[object Object], This includes the place, the people, the actions and the objects that are around you.,[object Object],Remember although you are writing imagine that you are telling your friend about what you have experienced. Give them all the details they need . ,[object Object]

CREATE WORDPICTURES!,[object Object],You already use adjectives in your writing but you want to be even more creative. ,[object Object],You want to create pictures in their mind- Word pictures or Imagery.,[object Object],Imagery does not only include what you see it also includes what you hear, smell, taste, touch and even feel.,[object Object]

Your reader must be able to close their eyes listen to your words and create a mental image of what you are describing.,[object Object],Imagination makes It happen but your words can help,[object Object]

Some descriptive details to consider when describing an object,[object Object],Examine:,[object Object],Colours,[object Object],Shapes,[object Object],Sizes,[object Object],Texture (how it feels),[object Object]

Examine the location. Is it a,[object Object],What you should consider when describing a place,[object Object],Man-made World- buildings, objects, vehicles ,[object Object],Natural World- trees , animals, mountains, beaches, weather,[object Object],Even an imaginary world ,[object Object]

Show not Tell,[object Object],One the most important things to remember when you are creating a description is to show not tell.,[object Object],What does this mean?,[object Object]

Show not tell: Scenario 1,[object Object],If you are writing about someone who is excited about going to a party how would you describe this?,[object Object], A.,[object Object],She was excited when her parents gave her permission to go to the party.,[object Object],B.,[object Object],Her eyes widened with surprise and her lips parted as she screamed with delight when her parents said “Yes”,[object Object]
