Lifestyle This music is linked to the punk philosophy: they don´t like or understand some rules in the society they live and they criticize them, through the provocation in the way they dress, in the themes they sing..... Punk songs express the dislike for the systems and the powers that rule the world. Their songs have normally a high political intention against conservative politics. They are rebels, their songs talk about the things they don´t like. But they don´t look dirty or dangerous. They have a messy look, with a surprising hairstyle.

Who are they? All the band members are canadian. Deryck, Jason and Steve first met as kids in secondary school ( in Ajax, Ontario), and have always been in the band. Tom was born in Toronto and joined the band in 2007, after helping them in some tours. He had previously played in other bands. Deryck Whibley is the leader of the band. He is the song writer: this means he writes the lyrics and the music. He is also the lead vocalist of the band, and plays the rhythm guitar. This band is famous because they do long tours with many performances. They also film their own video clips for their songs. The band was also one of the first punk-rock bands.
Great hits First hit song was Fat Lip , in 2001. The song takes it name form the slang term used for a swollen lip after being punched in the face in a fight in the street. The verses talked about how they were growing in the suburbs, going to parties and hanging out with friends, causing trouble. In 2005 , the album Chuck won "Rock Album of the Year"
The Congo experience: Chuck In 2004 the band travelled to Democratic Republic of Congo with canadian ONG War Child Canada, to document the civil war in the country. They had a traumatic experience, as some days after arriving fighting broke up near their hotel, and they found themselves in the center of the conflicts. A U.N. peacemaker, named Chuck came to help them get out of the zone in armored carriers. They wrote a song with this experience and called it Chuck, which became a great hit.
Sum 41 and Avril Lavigne The band´s leader Deryck, met punk singer Avril Lavigne when she was 17, just after she had publicly said that she was having trouble meeting boys because her bodyguards scared them away . They got married in 2006 in a traditional, catholic wedding, not a rock and roll wedding as they had initially thought. But their marriage did not last long: three years after, in 2009, divorce came. Deryck and Avril have performed together in the past and fortunately, though divorced, they remain friends and continue working together.
With me This song is melodic. It talks about friendship and love, depending on the mood, and how you feel when time has gone by and you miss the other person, How there are unspoken things both know and are not forgotten, how you feel you are nothing without the other person.
