  9. 9. <ul><ul><li>The engagement and actions undertaken in the initiative must go beyond current legal requirements and should be of a voluntary nature; </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The initiative should built upon and be synergetic with on-going actions at the local, national, regional or global level; </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The initiative should recognize the importance of business good-practices to reduce the rate of biodiversity decline and the value of biodiversity for sustainable entrepreneurial activity. </li></ul></ul>

Sector Activity - forest management / industry            Accession to the B&B Iniciative - 3 rd October 2007 Base commitment - management of areas with less productive value for biodiversity <ul><li>Actions already implemented : </li></ul><ul><li>Restoration of water lines, planting willows, oleanders and cork </li></ul><ul><li>Created a zone of protection to priority habitats 4020 * </li></ul><ul><li>Planting clumps of Pyrenean oak </li></ul><ul><li>Eliminated old plantations of eucalyptus species and restoration with authoctones species </li></ul>
  12. 12. <ul><li>Sector Activity - cork industry                       Accession to the B&B Iniciative -10 th October 2007 Base commitment – valuation of supply chain through integration of biodiversity issues </li></ul><ul><li>(with WWF; AFN ; QUERCUS) </li></ul><ul><li>  Actions already undertaken: </li></ul><ul><li>Prize for the best research on the value and sustainability of oak and associated biodiversity ( &quot;Exclusion of grazing and biodiversity of the assembled : basis for use of rotational grazing “) </li></ul><ul><li>Technical advice service for high value biodiversity forest management - 25 proprieties and about 8 000 hectares of cork oak forest area - together with WWF </li></ul><ul><li>(2 nd edition of the service is already started) </li></ul><ul><li>Prize best practices in sustainable management of cork forests </li></ul><ul><li>Evaluating of the cork oak ( montados ) environmental services (together with WWF) </li></ul>
  13. 13. <ul><li>Sector Activity - metalworking, tourism, agricultura </li></ul><ul><li>Accession to theB&B Iniciative –20 th October 2007 Base commitment - to strengthen biodiversity on their property </li></ul><ul><li>Preservation of the Aegypius monachus </li></ul><ul><li>Actions already undertaken: </li></ul><ul><li>Improvement of the habitat of wild rabbit with the introduction of natural shelter, refuge areas for implementation and adaptation of agricultural practices and cultures to the food needs of the species. </li></ul><ul><li>Reduction of human activity between February and July in the geographical areas most sensitive. </li></ul><ul><li>Start of construction of field food for birds necrophagous </li></ul>
  14. 14. <ul><li>Sector Activity - management consultancy                   Accession to the B&B Iniciative  - 17 th December, 2007 Base commitment - integrating biodiversity into business </li></ul><ul><li>Actions already undertaken: </li></ul><ul><li>Development of action plans for conservation of fauna and flora </li></ul><ul><li>Support for the creation of the 1st National Biodiversity Offset </li></ul><ul><li>Participation in various discussion forums, conferences and seminars promoting the Initiative B & B </li></ul>
  15. 15. <ul><li>Sector Activity - telecommunications                     Accession to the B&B Iniciative – 20 th November, 2008 Base of commitment - promoting biodiversity conservation (with QUERCUS) </li></ul><ul><li>Conservation Project of the Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax Actions already undertaken: </li></ul><ul><li>Improvement of feeding habitats </li></ul><ul><li>Support for the grazing of passage, through collaboration or hiring local pastors </li></ul><ul><li>Installation of stable collective and milking parlor, based on the use of quarry reclaimed </li></ul><ul><li>  Local partnerships </li></ul><ul><li>Surveillance and monitoring of the species </li></ul>
  16. 16. <ul><li>Sector Activity - industrial and agricultural                 Accession to the B&B Iniciative - 29 th October 2007 Base commitment - to enhance biodiversity on their property, value of production for biodiversity Actions already undertaken: </li></ul><ul><li>Installation of 67.97 hectares of vineyard and 10 hectares of olive groves in order organic production </li></ul><ul><li>Conversion of 5 ha of vineyard to organic production mode </li></ul><ul><li>Creation of the first offset Biodiversity nationally established between private entities based on the restoration of habitats </li></ul><ul><li>Adaptation of grazing to manage weeds and understorey </li></ul><ul><li>Decreased density in the areas of pine forest - more than 250 pines / ha </li></ul>

  19. 19. Biodiversity conservation account with the commitment of the Member States and the European Commission as promoters, giving greater visibility to member companies . The NGO and other civil society organizations should also be involved and contribute actively to this process
