This is a presentation of Blogger Kevin Ray Chua on the impact of blogging during the 2010 elections and a dissemination forum of SIRCA (Strengthening ICTD Research Capacity in Asia) and the Center for Research and Communication of University of Asia and the Pacific. This was presented last March 5, 2011 at the Don Merto's Restaurant, 94 Juana Osmena Street, Cebu City.

  2. 2. 2010 ELECTION CANDIDATES It was a campaign that was 3 years in the making and suddenly changed on the last minute.
  3. 3. BEFORE CORY’S DEATH <ul><li>People were looking for a President: </li></ul><ul><li>tumutulong sa mahihirap </li></ul><ul><li>laki sa hirap </li></ul><ul><li>may malasakit sa mga mahihirap </li></ul><ul><li>This was used intensively by Manny Villar given his money & machinery. </li></ul>
  4. 4. AFTER CORY’S DEATH <ul><li>People were looking for a President: </li></ul><ul><li>hindi kurap </li></ul><ul><li>may integridad </li></ul><ul><li>tumutulong sa mahirap </li></ul><ul><li>The first two was used intensively by Noynoy Aquino given his Aquino brand. </li></ul>
  5. 5. BLOG HISTORY The Mar Roxas for President in 2010 Blog was created and launched last JULY 29, 2007.
  7. 7. BLOG HISTORY It’s main goal was to encourage and support then Senator Mar Roxas to run as President of the Philippines for the May 2010 Presidential elections.
  8. 8. BLOG HISTORY For me, it was a result of the people’s desire for change from the Arroyo regime. Even though the 2007 Midterm Elections just ended then, the 2010 campaign was already on the air.
  9. 9. BLOG HISTORY The blog was not affiliated with Senator Mar Roxas and the Liberal Party of the Philippines. It was also the first blog that started it all for the 2010 elections online.
  10. 10. AWARDS The Mar Roxas for President in 2010 Blog won as the Top 5 among the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs of 2008, a writing project organized by Ms. Janette Toral. Source:

CHALLENGES <ul><li>Doubts on my intentions, my connections and my purpose. </li></ul><ul><li>Threat of legal action against me and the blog. </li></ul><ul><li>Times of being stereotyped because of the topic that I’m blogging. </li></ul><ul><li>Engaging into several debates with friends and new found critics. </li></ul>
  12. 12. LOOKING FORWARD Blogging has already helped shaped today’s political landscape with more and more bloggers getting involved in sharing their views on issues that matter to them. This medium is widely accessible to everyone knowing that more and more Filipinos are getting hooked online.
