Something We Can All Do

  1. 1. MATTHEW 28:16-19 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed and made appointment with them. And when they saw Him they fell down and worshipped Him; but some doubted. Jesus approached, and breaking the silence said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go then…
  2. 2. LUKE 10:1-11 Now after this the Lord chose and appointed seventy-two others and sent them out ahead, two by two, into every town and place where He himself was about to come. And He said to them, the harvest is indeed abundant, but the farmhands are few. Pray then to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go your way, behold I send you like lambs into the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no provisions bag, no change of sandals; refrain from retarding your journey by saluting and wishing well anyone along your way.
  3. 3. Whatever house you enter first, say, Peace to this household! Freedom from all stresses resulting from sin be with this family. And if anyone worthy of peace and blessedness is there, the peace and blessedness you wish shall come back upon him, but if not, it shall come back to you. And stay in the same house eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not keep moving from house to house.
  4. 4. Whenever you go into a town and they receive and they accept and welcome you, eat what is set before you: and heal the sick in it, and say to them, The Kingdom of God has come close to you. But wherever you go into a town and they do not receive, accept and welcome you, go on into its streets and say, ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we are wiping off against you; yet know and understand that the Kingdom of God has come near you.
  5. 5.  We need to go – 2 by 2.  Jesus would have gone there.  Pray for more laborers.  It will be dangerous and we will feel vulnerable.  Just be yourself, no need for other stuff.  Be intentional in our journey and not easily distracted.  Enter a house and speak Peace!  If the peace is received they will be blessed, if it is rejected, you will be blessed
  6. 6.  If they receive the peace, stay with them and eat what they give you (this is your earning).  Don’t move from house to house.  Heal the sick and declare the kingdom of God has come near.  If not received, wipe the dust from your feet and declare the Kingdom of God has come near.
  7. 7. Why? • They are more comfortable • We are more vulnerable • We are showing understanding • We are affirming who they are
  8. 8. How to speak peace? • Say that you bless this home / family/ person with freedom from all stresses that sin wants to put on them! • ‘Shalom’ – bless them with tranquility, calm, prosperity, security, grace. • Be kind, real and encouraging about their situation. THIS IS SOMETHING WE CAN ALL DO
  9. 9. When do we stay? When the person is a HOST: • Hungers for the relationship • Is Open to you • Is Sharing his life • Is Transparent
  10. 10.  Let them share their life with you.  We affirm that their world is important to us.  We covenant, and choose to go deeper.  What we eat, determines how deep the relationship will get.
  11. 11. Jesus spoke to a prostitute by himself; had tea with a despised tax collector; had meals with opposing Pharisees; touched lepers; noticed dirty disreputable blind people and healed them, and even went into a stinky tomb to raise Lazarus.
  12. 12. 1 Corinthians 2:4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. a. Interview b. Decide on the prayer c. Pray simply d. Ask if there is a change e. Pray again f. Bless the person
  13. 13. 1. Go into a person’s house (their world), and speak peace. 2. Stay in the house and eat whatever is given to you. 3. Pray for the sick and say that the Kingdom of God has come near.
