  2. 2. Differences between the North and the South• North: 21 million people, much industry• big industrial projection; not much slavery• got many new immigrants• industrial production of New York is almost four times greater than the production in the South
  3. 3. • South: there lived over 9 million people, but 4 million slaves• not much industry, only agriculture, mainly cotton & tobacco plantations• they needed slaves, they did the work on the plantations• most people are conservative
  4. 4. Problems between the North and the South• people in the North are against slavery• in the South they need the slaves• presidential election 1860• the sovereignty of the Southstates was limited• they resigned from the Union
  5. 5. Drain at the end of the war• after presidential election 6 states left the United States• established confederation• attacked military centres of the United States in the South• the North won, over 650,000 people died
  6. 6. After the war• 1865 Lincoln was killed by a man from the South• incredible damage in the South• hate between the North and the South• 10 years to integrate the Southern States into the Union
