About CECAbout CEC CEC an Inter University Centre was established by University Grants Commission (UGC) on 26th May 1993 under section 12(ccc) of its act. CEC is a nodal agency at National level, to address the educational needs of the country through the use of various modes of communication such as TV, Radio, EduSat and Internet.

Consortium MembersConsortium Members CEC has 22 Educational Multimedia Research Centres (EMRCs) located in various State and Central Universities across the country. At present 17 Centres are operational and 5 Centres at Bhubaneswar, Puducherry, Lucknow, Gaya & Dibrugarh have been setup by UGC recently. These Centres are engaged in production of Video & Multimedia based programmes since more than 28 Years. Centres have about 500 trained manpower & state of art equipments.

CEC as Pace-setter in use of ICT in EducationCEC as Pace-setter in use of ICT in Education CEC started first Educational TV Broadcast in country on 15th August, 1984. The first national talk back experiment conducted in 1991 for interactive Educational Television. 2nd talk back experiment conducted in 1993 for use of ICT in Interactive Educational Television. Exclusive 24X7 Vyas Higher Educational Channel started in 2004. In 2004, CEC and Media Centre were first in country to design the e-content template and started producing e-content.

Educational Content DevelopmentEducational Content Development CEC Media Centres have been pioneer in production of Educational Television programmes (ETV) both enrichment and curriculum based content since last 28 years. CEC has one of the largest repository which includes – More than 23,886 Educational Video programmes. More than 8,086 e-content modules.  More than 1500 short learning objects. More than 2500 video programmes, e-contents, LOR etc., are added to the repository annually.

E-content Development in 87 UGE-content Development in 87 UG subjects under NME-ICTsubjects under NME-ICT The MHRD vide its communication dated 31st March, 2009 has approved a Project Proposal for e-content development to CEC in Under Graduate subjects. CEC alongwith Media Centres developed an e- content template in four quadrant following instructional design methodology, which has been accepted as model template by MHRD.

Unique Features of CEC e-content moduleUnique Features of CEC e-content module Maintaining highest Audio/Video quality Production of e-content in complete 4 Quadrants Creating Transcription (Text) out of the video spoken by the Teacher and making the text available to the students in e-content modules Creating e-book out of each e-content module is developed & incorporated in Template under Downloads & Academic Script, besides introducing Glossary, Frequently Asked Questions and their replies, Quiz, Assignment, case studies, Tutorials etc.
  11. 11. E-content certification and validation in two stages Rigorous quality control during production of e- content development at Media Centre, expert preview and incorporating corrections in the e- content thereafter Secondary stage preview at CEC, suggestion for correction in modifications and accepting only the certified e-content modules.

These E-Content courseware were dedicated to Nation by Honorable HRM on 28th January, 2014 and are now available on web portals www.cec-ugc.nic.in and www.sakshat.ac.in Botany History Anthropology English Language (General) Mathematics Hindi Language (General) Photography (Vocational) Environmental Science

E-Content development in 58 UG SubjectsE-Content development in 58 UG Subjects under Phase-IIunder Phase-II The Project Approval Board (PAB), MHRD in its 27th Meeting held on 19th March, 2014 approved creation of courseware E-Content Development for 58 UG Subjects under Phase-II. Media centres have completed the subject mapping under Phase-II subjects and are at various stages of e-content productions under Phase-II.

E-Content subjects to be completed upto 31E-Content subjects to be completed upto 31stst Aug, 2014Aug, 2014 Commerce Computer Science Geography Performing Arts English Literature Hindi Literature Sociology Psychology Applied Physical Science (Computer Science) Communication & Journalism Further E-content under Phase-I in remaining 11 Subjects shall be completed by December, 2014.

MultimodeMultimode Dissemination of Education ContentDissemination of Education Content DTH Broadcast : 24X7 Vyas Higher Educational Channel being telecast since 26th January, 2004. which is available on DTH Platform of DD Free Dish and Dish TV. EduSat : UGC-CEC nationwide two way interactive EDUSAT network with installed nodes of over 100 Satellite interactive Terminals (SITs) and 71 ROTs. Live Transmission : Four hours transmission of EduSat Live lectures from the month May, 2014. Subject experts are invited and regular live transmission takes place from the CEC. Youtube : The programmes transmitted on EDUSAT is also available on www.youtube.com/edusat.

New initiative for use of ICT in EducationNew initiative for use of ICT in Education  CEC is experimenting with Centre for Development of Advance Computing (CDAC), Pune for interactive television programming and transmission by combining digital multimedia e- content material with audio/video stream.  Starting skill based and languages e-courses in collaboration with Universities.  Creating local storage at University /Colleges where entire content can be stored for viewing by students
  19. 19. contd.contd. CEC and Media Centre are initiating new programmes in Teacher training with Academic staff college of UGC. The CEC alongwith EMRCs are the only organization in the country to take up Educational Media Research Activity. CEC is planning to create massive online open courses on cloud for benefits of students.
