Results • Tax payers’ hassles in filing returns, making payments in Banks eliminated • Dealer Department interface reduced to a large extent – Eliminated about 3000 daily visits to Sales Tax Offices – No need to come to Department for applications for Registration, Refunds, Obtaining CST forms etc. – Inspectors’ visits for ITC cross checking eliminated • Return filing percentage increased from 40 % to 90% • Tax Collection increased to Rs 56591Cr. – Rose by Rs 20000 Cr in two years • Hawala Racket unearthed – 1009 Hawalas,35000 Beneficiaries,Rs1000 Cr Tax evasion caught, Rs 300 Cr plus recovered • Faster communication with dealers through SMS, e-mail • Reduction in corruption.27 April 2012 MSTD_Mumbai 8
  9. 9. Lessons Learnt• Outsourcing is a useful model but should be given to a single Agency• Must do things – Working Group of stake holders – Awareness Campaign and Training before introduction of each e Service – Pilot before actual launch – Help Desks to resolve difficulties 9
