3. 3. The Solvent Selection Guide

Text…

23 rd June SE attends a session @ this conference Dr I. Mergelsberg (Merck) described a consortia for solvent selection which resulted in a document (PDF) hidden on ACS website
 4. 4. The Solvent Selection Guide Lots of data but how to make it useful for chemists? Chemists see structures PDF not accessible, small text- too much data
 5. 5. Brainstorming The Green Solvents App SE asks speaker question if they considered making the document more widely available by an App? Answer: NO, but a good idea. Next speaker seconds it, chair also pondered whether ACS had such an interest. SE Tweets Then in Minutes Alex Clark responds to twitter and along with SE, AJW start an email discussion about Apps while in the meeting session. Future session discussion concerned about people taking an App out of context SE blogs about it in the evening
 6. 6. Making the App a Reality Alex Clark made the App in 3 days
 7. 7. Making the App a Reality Bad Good
 8. 8. How to Use the App

It's about as simple as an app can get!!

Tap a solvent and more details appear

Tap somewhere else on the screen, it dismisses the detail view.

The ChemSpider & MORE icons can be tapped to jump to the ChemSpider website/launch the Mobile Reagents app, respectively.

 9. 9. How to Get the App

Did we say it’s available for download here from June 30 th (idea to app available in a week)

And it is

FREE!!!!

 11. 11. … ^ a ^Chemist "I think if you study-if you learn too much of what others have done-you may tend to take the same direction as everybody else"- Jim Henson Why an App Could Make All The Difference Many chemists have a smartphone/pad Delivering solutions via an App is easier when in the lab The e-lab notebook is in the office and the phone is in the pocket Apps are easy to use anywhere, anytime
