Customer Background:
Founded in 1998, Planeta Activo specializes in selling sport and leisure recreation goods. Its mission is to offer
products and services to the sports-minded consumer in a fast and efficient manner. The customer is looking to
offer online shopping for its products and services.
Business Need:
The customer was looking to expand its business and gain clients by extending its products and services to the
Internet. It wanted an e-commerce Web site that would allow customers to purchase goods from the comfort of
their own homes at any time of the day or night. Previously, the customer relied on sales from its location store to
produce all of its business. With an e-commerce Web site, the customer hoped to take advantage of the growing
selling channel offered by the Internet.
Solution:
IBM responded to the customer's need by developing an e-commerce Web site using WebSphere Commerce
Professional Entry Edition Version 4.1.1. WebSphere Commerce allows the customer to run a dynamic,
functional and high performance site for the sale of Planeta Activo's sports products and services - the first e-
commerce sporting goods site in Latin America. The site easily integrates with the customer's back end systems,
offering quick updates on prices and stock for front end Web users. The new site also offers the ability for
customers to pay with different currencies, depending on where they are located throughout the world. Most
importantly, WebSphere Commerce provides a catalog system, allowing the Web site to have different section
dedicated to different types of users. For example, Planeta Activo's site is catalogued by groups including sports
fanatics, active woman and product type.
Benefits of the Solution:
In four months, the Web site developed using IBM WebSphere Commerce has received more than 300,000 visits
and 500 buyers. The open currencies payment option and the ability for customer's to pay either on- or offline has
attracted many users to the site. The customer has increased site visibility by affiliating with 40 other e-commerce
sites including the sites associated with Club Atletico River Plate and the Association of Argentine Futbol.
