My Arrival at Servite•Before I arrived I e-mailed the head teacher andMr Gauci replied informing me of the relevantdetails.•When I arrived I met my mentor and I wasintroduced to the staff.•We spoke about the school and the expectationsfor myself and mentor.•I was given a timetable for the first week and thena new one for after this.• We arranged to meet each week to discussobjectives.
What I have seen:•Assemblies each Monday morning – brings the schooltogether and then other assemblies in the week.•All staff meet daily•The use of the interactive whiteboard in each class.•The pupils know what they are doing each day becausethey discuss the timetable for that day.•Behaviour management techniques.•WALT and success criteria is shared with the children –children know what their objectives are.•The creative curriculum Topics – very different formSpain.
What I have begun to do:• Plan and prepare lessons with set objectives.• Teach G&T Spanish to native speakers.• Go to Music lessons as part of my specialism and attend music trips / events.• To observe teaching practise and support small group in class (year 2 / 3 / 4)• To be part of all Spanish lessons when relevant.
What I will complete by the end of my practise.• Prepare, Plan and teach Spanish music lessons to Spanish children.• Meet with Music specialist to understand the curriculum.• Deliver and assembly based on the G&T Spanish group relating to Music.
At the end I hope to have…• Understand the teaching of Music (learn how to plan and assess).• To understand the teaching of a second language.• To have learnt a range of strategies to support behaviour management.
Next Time…• New students should have the contact details of the school and person they will be working with in advance.• For the mentor to know in advance the objectives of the student e.g. specialist subjects, outcomes…
